2017~2024 CX-5 Chirp Noise from Automatic Transaxle on 3-4 upshift - Bulletin 05-005/23

I'm so glad I opted for the 2017 instead of the 2018 back in early 2018 when I bought my CX5. Mazda dealer had a bunch of new 2018's on the lot and a prior model year 2017 on the lot. I read about the CD and I had a strong gut feeling that it could turn out to be problematic. So I bought the...

2.5 NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil leaking...How common is this?

I have yet to see a 2017 model year vehicle have CD. If it did, it would be listed on the window sticker of the vehicle. It would also have a "M" in the 8th digit of the VIN, if it has CD. My 2017 has a "L" in the 8th digit, so no CD for me.

First Auto Tranny Fluid Change at 95k (2015 CX-5)

The "lifetime" fluid claim is just a marketing/EPA claim. Lifetime means the lifetime of the warranty, once that expires, the manufacturer could care less if the trans fails. No hydraulic fluid that is subjected to heat and friction will last a "lifetime". Excavation equipment uses similar...

First Auto Tranny Fluid Change at 95k (2015 CX-5)

I would drop the pan and clean out the magnet, plus change the filter. The magnet catches metal particles, like the clutch material. I did a drain and fill at 25k. Then another drain and fill at 50k. Then I did the pan removal and filter change at 53k. There was definitely material on the...

Engine hum when shut off (2023 CX-5)

I believe it's the fuel pressure regulator as it's cycling fuel back to the fuel tank. It's not the LED fans.

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

The Idemitsu 5w-30 synthetic meets the GF-6 standards. I bought a 5 quart jug on RockAuto for $31 plus shipping

    2013~2016 CX-5 Services/maintenance required?

Entering the fuel tank is not what I call "serviceable" :) The fuel filters that I had on other vehicles would take 5 minutes to replace as they were "in-line" on the fuel line side. Not inside the gas tank. I assume one has to drop the entire fuel tank to access the fuel pump and filters?

    2013~2016 CX-5 Services/maintenance required?

Yes, I just did mine at 53k miles and there was a decent amount of steel clutch material on the magnet. Trans works great but that magnet needed to be cleaned. Replaced the filter also. Once that magnet gets overwhelmed, it will start sending the metal into the trans. It's a pain with the trans...

    2013~2016 CX-5 Services/maintenance required?

The CX-5's don't have an accessible/serviceable fuel filter, correct?

    2017~2024 CX-5 Coolant questions

How often should the coolant be drained and refilled? Every 6 years or 60k miles?

I want to buy a 2023 CX-5. What are the major issues?

I swapped out my mini doughnut spare for a full sized rim spare. Yes, it doesn't sit flush under the rear cover but having a full sized spare is such a peace of mind. Who wants to deal with a small spare that cannot be used on the front tires anyways and cant go over 55mph. I'm fortunate I got...

I want to buy a 2023 CX-5. What are the major issues?

Why doesn't Mazda just get rid of the CD? The gain is maybe 1mpg but the risk and problems are just not worth it.

    Guide ATF Drain/Fill

Ran i I used a thermal laser gun to get temps. I've done 2 fluid changes prior to doing a 3rd fluid/filter change just now. I believe it is good enough for now where it is at on the dipstick. When driving around that fluid is sloshing around on turns, stops, going uphill/downhill. It's almost...

    Guide ATF Drain/Fill

So at 122F the fluid is between the center rectangle and below the 122F line. Good enough for me. Ran it up to temperature twice and so far no leaks. I will take it for a test drive slowly down the driveway without the plastic bottom cover and then check for leaks before I install the cover.
