    if the alt. is bad and not charging even if the vehicle does start it will eventually die once the battery is drained, modern or not.

    sorry man, the mazda computers aren't capable and will only allow you to do updates, as far as changing it to the mp3 specs the only way would be with an aftermarket programmer. Let me know if you got any other questions, one of my guys is a 15yr veteran and always willing to help!

    majority of the time your battery light should come on it the alt. fails but not always. If a bearing went bad in the alt. the light may not come on. I priced an alt through my parts dept. and for an 02-03 p5 it runs about $285. Thats for a mazda one you can always go aftermarket for cheaper...

    so talked to one of my master techs, check your battery cables first for corrison, he siad you more than likely have a bad ground some where but it may also be a bad alternator. give me an update and if you have any more questions let me know.

    this is very true, but most shops will probably charge you about 1 hour to replace both. Honestly it really isn't very hard, the advice above is great.

    you see this a lot this time of year, check your alt belt for signs of wear, if it looks cracked or worn go ahead and replace it and if this is the case go ahead and replace the ac belt too since you have to remove it to replace the alt belt.
