well there sure is a bunch of misinformation in this thread. Mazda is still covering surface rust on the hatch. In fact, I saw a Protege5 at Autobahn Autoworks yesterday getting hatch rust repair work done (at Mazda's expense.) Take your car to Sunridge, they will help you out.

yeah but there isn't a filter on the fuel pump. the filter (or sock) is inside the gas tank (which in most all cases will never have to be replaced.)

there really isn't a replaceable fuel filter on the protege/protege5. i mean, you can rip out the gas tank to clean/replace the little filter on it, but odds are that it won't be the problem.

I don't think there is any car that could stand 8 years of Ontario winters without rust. Even hardcore rustproofing can't help the road salt and wet winters of your area. Blame Mazda all you want, but you live in a harsh, rust prone province.

One word, RUST. Quebec (and Ontario less so, but not much less) uses salt heavily in the winter months. After just one year, the bolts on the engine and heat shield will be rusting. Stay far, far away from eastern Canadian cars if you can.

The RX-8 uses the same filter (B6Y1-14-302) as the Protege. I can't see any reason to use a bigger filter than what is recommended by the dealer/manufacturer.

what is the difference between the corksport and kartboy bushings? i mean, if i buy the corksport, will buying the kartboy as well be a waste? is it one or the other, or both?

no problem. i ended up paying $20 dollars for mine (from a mazda tech who had one laying around.) :)

yeah, and a good amount of base model protege's used the same holder as well (with a single din stock headunit.) at least from 99 up, but it could be before that too.

you can find them used as well. junkyard, used part resellers, etc.
