Thanks all for your inputs.
In particular, appreciate yrwei52 and Snorting2.5 for their thoughts on LCA. Repair quote is from a local repair shop and LCA (right and left) is the most expensive item on the list. I will get a second quote from other shop and see if it is any better

...the update.
I also consider the ball joint on the front lower control arm is pretty weak based on recent experience from my 2016 CX-5. The LCA was bent at the ball joint location and the ball joint was damaged due to a hard hit to the curb several months ago and the entire LCA had to be...
Not a Cx-5, but my 2015 6, which has essentially the same components, is on its second LCA, which already has some play in it. (Again.) . I'm at close to 193,000 miles. So I agree it's excessive and a problem area.
My bushings look much worse than what you see in that photo. The vehicle...
I just ordered an OEM rear brake hose for my Scion XB online. Came to $67!! Hose, gasket, and banjo bolt. Crazy. Thing is about a foot long. Must be lined with gold. The dealer wanted $66 just for the hose alone. Gasket and bolt came to about $8 each online.
Replaced the front sway bar bushings and lower control arms. No more squeaks (bushings) or clunks (LCA ball joints) when going over speed bumps! At least not from the front end...
I went to Brakes Plus to replace the right front LCA which got bent by a hard hit to the curb. As mentioned I paid $285.22 for an OEM LCA from my Mazda dealer with 20% off from MSRP. Took it to the shop and they suggested to install a front camber adjustment bolt just in case and it costs...
I have around 145k miles (2015 CX-5 GT). In 2024 I had a noise from the front. I did the little protectors on the springs, no luck. I did the LCAs and no luck. Did the sway bar links and that ended up fixing that noise. Note on this, noise didn't happen when sitting in the air, had to jack...
I just installed Delphi lower control arms on my 2015 CX5. Both of my original ball joints were bad, and one of the control arm bushings was mostly broken. The arms were about $75 each. My local Mazda parts counter wanted almost $350 for each arm! I recently had bad experiences with Mevotech...
Putting the new LCAs on wasn't really a problem, but the bushings part (that has the two bolts, 1 long, 1 short) was definitely difficult to get to align right without it moving off center. Not that difficult, but took a bit of finagling for me.
In short, keep a close eye out for play in the front wheels when you have the car up in the air. Or clunking.
Though my LCA ball joint clunks over bumpy turns, it's hardly any play. I won't change it just yet.. Look out for excessive amounts of it.
it is a lot of fun and joy! I replaced my front twice and then my right side once more again. I was off roading (stupidly) in the pits and bottomed out many times which messed up my suspension again and ripped off a lot of plastic front fender lol 🙄🙄
If the ball joints on the LCAs are still in good shape without play, the worn bushings won’t cause immediate danger other than some clunking noise. But if the rubber seal on ball joints is cracked or broken with play, it definitely is time to replace the LCAs. I went to Brakes Plus to...
But you still want to be careful on clunking ball joint even if it doesn’t have any “play”. It’s a lot more dangerous when the LCA ball joint fails, i.e. the ball comes out of the socket! And it’s been reported a couple of times here even on an almost new CX-50:
Control Arm Shears off on a...
...metal pipe trying to loose the bolts and nuts. I wouldn’t use the torch though.
You can also check the price from indie shops replacing the LCAs. I just replaced a bent LCA on passenger side due a hard hit to the curb. Brakes Plus charged me $250 on labor with my own OEM LCA. The...
...up in snowier areas.
Brakes plus quoted me close to $1100 to do the lower control arms, but that was parts and labor. Looks like I can get the LCA's online for $185 each and then maybe pay them to install them. I bought some LCA's at the dealer for $289 each over the weekend and then...
Interestingly enough I recently did my LCA's and CV axles on the front end and about 95% of my clunks went away, but I also notice the same intermittent clunks while turning at parking lot speeds over broken pavement. I am anxious to see your answer to this problem. I'm guessing it's the sway...
so yeah, my 2016 CX-5 is up to 163,000 miles. I had local shop replace both LCA and outer tie rods. both LCA rubber bushings were cracked and broken, the LCA ball joint was in bad shape. The outer tie rod rubber were both cracked. This was expected at 163K. I just got it done because I...
...first on the end links, esp if they are loose. My steering also felt loose and sloppy, like a low tire until I replaced them.
Then, a ball joint shat itself. Had the local shop replace the entire LCA, and the handling is fine again. Rather good for it's age and mileage (original struts.!)
