need help deciding on spring/shock combo

I have a 1998 Protege and I want to lower it about 2". Not looking for race quality, just street use at a fairly cheap price, a.k.a. no coilovers. Any and all suggestions are welcome, thanks.

They have everything for the BP, nothing for the Z5 :( The Z5 is like the child nobody wants, haha.

If I could relocate my battery, fuse box, maybe coolant overflow, I'd make a really nice one, but I don't have the time, money or know-how at the moment for that. Has anyone done any of that before? Or maybe a how-to somewhere?

Anthony, welcome. And yes, it is from Autozone, but I have some 2.5" aluminum now. Just need to get it cut and welded. Same basic layout, so nothing real different, just smaller diameter.

    Changing belts

Well, I'm getting into some maintenance stuff now that i have a job (though don't get paid til Friday, but whatever) and I decided to do the belts because the alt belt has huge chunks missing and I'll replace the p/s belt also since I have to take it off anyway. Main question, how the hell do...

Whats the best way to take off pin stripes???

I had all the time in the world, so I had no problem with just the razor. Not saying it's the best way, though. Goo Gone didn't work for me, but mineral spirits did, then I htink I wiped that down with water after, but can't remember. Probably because mine's over 10 years old the adhesive just...

Whats the best way to take off pin stripes???

I used a razor blade when I took mine off. As long as it's at a shallow angle it won't scratch the paint. Knowing about the hair dryer probably would have saved me a ton of time though.

Probably N/A BP. Though I have read on another forum about someone putting a 1.6L(ZM?) head onto the Z5 block. Apparently just bolts right on.

I'll be going with the BP swap, but not for a long while seeing as I have $0.00 right now. I do appreciate all the advice and info though.

    1998 Protege engine needed

It seems that my thoughts have been confirmed. The Z5 automatic transmission should bolt onto the BP with no problems. I'll let you know if anybody says different though.

    1998 Protege engine needed

I'm not sure if you're staying automatic or not, and I couldn't find any information on automatic transmission swaps, but as far as I know for manual transmissions, there's the G-series and the F-series transmissions. G-series is stronger and I think has lower gear ratios. If you want the...

    Many little annoyances!

If the child locks are engaged, doesn't that mean you can't open the door from the inside? That way the "child" can't open the door while going 65mph down the highway?

Good point on the ECU. Forgot about that. I think you've officially changed my mind, I'll go with a BP swap instead. Thanks guys.
