    still alots of road noise

Almost every review I have read of the Protege/Protege5 has listed road noise and/or wind noise as one of the weak points of the car. I realized that when I bought it, I noticed it right away when I test drove it. I don't expect it to be as quiet as a Lexus, but I also don't expect it to sound...

    still alots of road noise

I have a 2002.5 Protege5, and I have a 2003 Jetta GLS Wagon. Here's what I can tell you: 1) The Jetta is MUCH quieter 2) The P5 has more passenger room (esp. back seat) but less cargo room 3) The Jetta is in a different PRICE class, not a different size class So, why is the Jetta much quieter...

Snow is coming--1st for me in this car.

Doesn't matter how good of a driver you are, you can't overcome physics. There are hills around here that were just not possible to get up in the snow with the stock Dunlops. Put on snow tires and up I went. I can't imagine driving around in the winter on those Dunlops.

    One SUV I would buy!

I think it's a bit deceiving because of the 22" wheels on there. It's a lot bigger than it looks in that picture. I've been in one (just a "regular" Touareg) and it's pretty big. Certainly bigger than an Outback or an A4. Closer to a Cherokee.

    One SUV I would buy!

How is that "not really an SUV"? Because it's too low?

    Rear brake bias?

No need to be an asshole about it.

    Rear brake bias?

Why are the front rotors vented then and not the back? Seems odd, doesn't it? I don't doubt what you are saying, but I can't imagine why they would do that if the bias is on the rear.

    Drove a W12 Phaeton today

I think the car is worth the money, but I think the problem is VW dealers ARE NOT worth the money. People are going to expect a LOT if they are dropping $65-$80k on a car, and I'm not sure VW dealers are prepared for that. Hopefully VW is training their dealers/salespeople/parts/service how to...

    Rear brake bias?

So, it doesn't make sense that there would be a rear brake bias. Otherwise the front rotors wouldn't be vented while the back were solid. If anything, that would suggest a front brake bias (which is normal). I'm guessing this is just a function of the EBD. I'm not sure how the EBD decided where...

    Rear brake bias?

Yes, that is backwards, especially for a FWD car. That's what is confusing to me. I don't have any problem with the car having a rear brake bias if that's the way it is designed, but if it's not then I'd like to fix it.

    Rear brake bias?

I just had to replace my rear brake pads on my 2002.5 P5 at about 23K miles. The strange part is that the rear wore out before the front. Also strange, the outside pads were down to the metal, while the inside pads had about 1/3 left. But that's a different issue. I know this car has EBD, but...

    Best Winter Snow Tire?

Nokian Hakkapelitta are the best all-around snow tires. They have a pretty stiff sidewall, so they are not as "squirmy" as a lot of other snow tires. They are especially good in deeper snow. They are studdable, and wear MUCH better than softer snow tires. Blizzaks are good, but the handling on...

    handymen? carpentiers? Plumbers?

This is why I do everything myself. My wife and I completely redid our kitchen in the spring. Only thing I didn't do was run the new natural gas pipes, and redo the eletric for the center island. Anything that could blow up the house, I leave for the professional. Anyway, you can sand out chips...

Serious discussion: I really, really, really, REALLY want to quit!

Here's a possibility - find a lackey. Basically, find someone in the company, probably in a "lower" position who wants to get into what you are doing. Kindly offer your management to help this person get involved. Soon you will find yourself putting more of your workload on them, and they'll...

Serious discussion: I really, really, really, REALLY want to quit!

First off, do you dislike the job only, or do you also dislike the company/employees? If it's just the job itself, talk to your boss, and be honest. Tell him where you are at. Even better, try and think of something else in the company you could do, or some way you could make your current job...
