    GPS clamshell won't open

Could be the "technician" forgot to reconnect the Nav cable. In installing a cassett player in my car the techie forgot to reconnect the A/C and heat cables to the center stack controls.

    Special offers and rebates

One other thing, I had an extended warrenty the insurer refused to pay saying it was either my fault or the dealer's. I never bought another one.

    Special offers and rebates

the_saint: Mazda said at the introduction of the 5s they would not be running TV and magazine ads about them since the 2006 models would total only 1500 for the States. They are sticking to that and selling them. As for bad dealers, I have seen many salesmen like you describe and the best thing...

    My 5 hates me.

In the 1960s and later many cars had the gounding strap attached to the rear bumper. This reduced the chance of a spark when filling the gas tank. The static charge is in your clothes when you slide off of the seat. What you are wearing and the 5's seat fabic may have nylon or wool or both...

    Wind deflector question

I've wondered if clear moonroof deflectors are available? Those would make the moonroof less closed-in. Probably from a third party supplier. The other thing the deflector does besides reduce noise, it reduces road grime from blowing into the back seat area. Drivers don't realize how much...

    Wind deflector question

More than brushes, avoid those with felt straps too, they can take the clearcoat off in strips. All of Mazda's paints are metallic in one way or another, mica powder (metallic) is in the clearcoat. Wash by hand if you can.

When you're driving and you spot a CX7..

Scott: Now you know what millions of former Chase customers learned. To pay mortgage payments by phone they charge $14.95. They also sit on payments so they are "late" and they can add a late fee. Be SURE to mail it in so it arrives before the grace period by at least 4 days. It pays to set up...

    Mazda5 competition brewing?

Wasn't the Axxes the van without a B-pillar (none) and didn't the car mags say it was dangerous in T-bone crashes because of that? With safety regulations like they are it was probably cancelled. The 5 is the best looking small CUV and that's what sells it. If it looked like any of the others...

    Has anyone noticed?

I think what you are talking about are the inside parts of the sheet metal, such as door panels, which are not protected by the weatherstripping. It's always been that way on cars. The weatherstripping seals the door jam only against water (rain and when washing), dust, and wind noise. Same...

When you're driving and you spot a CX7..

You can always do what the *original Beetle* owners did -- flash your headlights. It got to be expected of Beetle owners. Those were the days when Beetles were the only cars on the road with headlight-flashing capability. The other way is to honk your horn twice.

    moonroof vs. sunroof

Back in the 1970s the German cars had sunroofs, the metal panel was fully retractable just like today. When the Japanese manufacturers offered the option they called it a moonroof and used glass instead of the roof panel. It was a marketing idea which caught on. More people wanted the glass...

    my 5 windshield cracked..!

Proteg owners, the past few years, who had windshields replaced because of cracks, from passing cars throwing up gravel and/or rocks in tires, found the replacement windshields were thicker glass than the OEM windshields on their cars. Less wind noise was a big plus. Mazda uses thinner glass to...

    New Owner 07' Grand Touring

On another web site they said Alcantra is coming on strong for factory seating, also called Ultrasuede, which is a faux suede easier to clean than real suede. Maybe Mazda will use that next. At least TexasGT5 is in good company, Bentley uses brown leather in the Shooting Brake GT and about the...

    New Owner 07' Grand Touring

TexasGT5, please buy two more shelf brackets and put them under the shelves in your garage before the stuff on them tumbles down and dents your new 5! Nice MZ5 you got there! I'm a hater though, sorry. I don't like black trim and the brown isn't much better. When I buy a 5 it goes straight to...

    Finally took the test drive.....

The Maza6 has a better horn, it sounds more like American car horns. Maybe your dealer could order one and install it.

    Finally took the test drive.....

With most OEM radios all you really need to do to get good sound is to change the speakers in the doors. Unless you want the boomcar sound with amplifiers many are installing, that should do it. That you could tune in the FM stations you like says the headunit has adeqaute sensativity. For the...

The Auto Channel's Mazda 5 Touring Review

I can't figure out why nothing comes up on that URL's page when I click on it? It's the website with a blank page. I have navigated through their other pages to find it, but it still won't load. Weird! I use a Mac, maybe it's one of those problems.

Waxing my brand, spankin new 5

About Mazda paints: NEVER, NEVER use a cleaner on the paint. If the paint is *Mica* the flake is in the clearcoat and using cleaner removes the clearcoat eventually. If the paint name is called *Metallic* the flake is in the paint layer, but the problem still exists because of the clearcoat --...

Anyone else dislike the cruise control light?

Nothing gets old faster than green illumination. Have it in my Protege and I avoid driving at night because of it. Had hoped the 5 would be red/orange like the MZ3. But that's not the worst thing mazda could do to the 5; and they did it when they changed the headlights and taillights on the 2007...
