    going autox this saturday...

Hm... in Houston novices are REQUIRED to ride through the course before driving. I'm not sure if its not a rule regionally or if its just one that is generally ignored...

Who's going to Maine Forest Rally?

I really need to move. I am so far away from just about every US rally.. its just sad. Good luck! I will be watching the results anyway... ;) OMG. Not Fair! I was so close to getting to go see that this year... :'( Maybe next... Post pics when you get back?

    going autox this saturday...

pull the seat belt across your lap so you can just get it buckled (but don't buckle it yet), twist the belt 3-4 times and then buckle in. This will keep the lap belt from untensioning and hold you in somewhat better. You can also try to engage the shoulder belt by jerking it sharply, but I could...

    Nightcrosses?

Oh I still go out for events in hotter weather (and through pouring rain and bad winds - this is hurricane country down here mind you) - but its nice not to have to once or twice over the summer....

    Nightcrosses?

There are lights, not that they're a whole lot of good. That's why we move to saturdays - not as much work conflicts for Sunday mornings... Our heat index on Saturday was up over 100 midday, hard to think through that ;)

    Nightcrosses?

Just wondering if anyone else did these. We had our first night event last Saturday. Lots of fun driving in the dark and it kind of adds a new element to things. Also - some of the prepared cars spit flames. Its very cool to watch at night. :D Don't know any other groups that run in the dark...

    Who holds an SCCA membership?

I am a member. Houston Region. Originally because of sign-up preferences at local AutoX events (we have a 30 non-member cap per set of heats), though now I've been drafted into the region's BoD (Beware of volunteering. You probably don't realize what you're getting into).

    Need opinions

When I bought mine I was shocked how much difference there was car to car. I test drove about 5 of the things, and the fact that the one I drove last felt 200% better was the reason I finally got one (and this when the cars were new). Some of them just seemed to be stuck together a little...

    AutoX #/Class Sizes?

That's easiest - mine are just black magnetic sheet cut with an Xacto. Took about 20mins and cost maybe 10-15$ A 24" x 12" sheet is probably enough for 2-4 numbers (1-2 per side) and 4 letters (2 each side) if you're conservative with it - 24"x24" if you want larger numbers than minimun size...

    AutoX #/Class Sizes?

that just means the thinnest(or is it thickest? o.O I should really know this...) part of the numbers should be at least 1 1/4in though regionally no one really cares - you will probably only be called on it at a national or maybe divisional event

    AutoX #/Class Sizes?

minimun 8" tall for numbers - letters are 25-50% that size and no smaller than 3" have to use at least 1 1/4" stroke also... not sure if there's a maximun size or not...

    cell phone placement

I once had my cell taped to the steering wheel... Most of the time its in that little storage cubby in the dash with my sunglasses and whatever other odd stuff I thought to toss in there for the week.

    AutoX harness opinions/mounting points?

That was kind of my point - the only other stock option is at too steep and angle - the rear belt points *would* mess up your spine. That was the whole point in mounting it to the child restraint points in the first place. I think its been previously established though that the only safe way...

    AutoX harness opinions/mounting points?

Really a harness would mess you up good in a crash anyway. I'm not sure having your shoulder straps fail in that situation would be any worse than them holding you in and screwing up your spine.

Plugged Tire + Nail = AutoX Worthy?

It'll come back to you. O.O I just realized there are people signed up for this weekend in DS. They're all ITRs... but there's actually going to be more than say.... 2 or 3 of us for once... you done online reg? saves 5$

Plugged Tire + Nail = AutoX Worthy?

I'll be around - should be easy to find in grid & I usually hunt down other MSPs when they show up anyway. I should warn you though - I've got one of the spec miata guys co-driving my car this weekend - he will probably kick all our butts. :D

    Possibly Autoxing MP3, suggestions?

:D You know the MP3 doesn't have a turbo right? It should do fairly well in GS - at least I hear stories to that note. We dont have one out where I run anymore... Most important thing with regular AutoX IMO is to be super good about your maintence. While its unlikely anything will really...

Plugged Tire + Nail = AutoX Worthy?

I've AutoXed on a (professionally)patched tire without problems... plugs are prob a bad idea though. Tire rack does have the RE040s however - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+RE040 and probably could get one to you by this weekend (the last order I...

    Who has the fewest miles?

10,200 - bought the car in December. At least hardly any are commute (I'm about 6mi from work) - they're almost all weekend miles to get to AutoXy-type things :D Zoom-zoom Cars are for driving after all.
