    Transmission removal tips

Thanks. Driver side axle was certainly not easy to pop out, due to the c-clip on the end. I've had that one out before due to a replacement, but pretty sure the P-side is still all original. Are you saying the trans can't slide right back off the clutch etc then dropped? the whole thing has to...

    Transmission removal tips

Looking for tips on dropping the manual tranny by myself w/o a lift. Also - any trick to getting the passenger side CV out? Not much to pry on at the extension shaft to pop it out. I'm think of maybe unbolting everything except the d-side trans mount, including unbolting teh rear mount, and...

Slippage while tightening lugnuts - clutch?

Yes, I have noted this effect of the wheels turning opposite one another on this and many cars. However I though if it was turned off while in gear (5spd) the output shaft would still be affixed to the engine flex plate preventing it from moving. But I guess with the open differential it would...

Slippage while tightening lugnuts - clutch?

yeah, can't quite shake the P5. Technically this is my 2nd, totalled the first in '09... replaced it immediately w/ an identical one... but I guess I'm coming up on 9 years here.

Manual. anything else and you are just a rider, not driving the car.

    Transmisison rebuild option

All signs indicate I need a trans rebuild ('02 5spd, non-ABS). Car has 185k on it already. Plan to keep another 3-5 years but I only do 8k/year. Looking to the collective for feedback on what route has proven to be most cost-effective. I am OK w/ pulling & replacing it myself. I have another...

    Manual transmission for P%

Need an MT for an '02 P5. Apparently this is the model w/ the speed sensor on the transmission (no ABS). I live in NE Maryland, can drive up to an hour radius so that's include southern PA or Delaware. Needed ASAP, will have to order one from a junkyard this week otherwise.

    Transmission directly on crossmember?

could you clarify or point to a pic? I should have snapped one before I took it off. Do you mean the front transmission mount that is a U-shape that bolts to the crossmember? Where it's contacting is more towards the back, right behind where the hole is that looks like it would be a drain or...

    P5 transmission issues

Just as a confirmation, I just finished removing both front crossmembers, and tried jacking up the trans from different angles... no change in behavior, still stuck in reverse. So not hung up from mount angle. Now the fun begins... anybody got an extra trans laying around? (loser) (fart)

    Transmission directly on crossmember?

It poking around for diagnosis of my gear issues here http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123849687-P5-transmission-issues&p=6392623#post6392623 I noticed that part of the base of my transmission is sitting directly on the front crossmember that runs between the core support and the...

    P5 transmission issues

Awhile ago, my P5 started to randomly pop out of gear. Seemed it was only when in certain RPM ranges. Based on some reading, figured it was a warn syncro (185k miles), and planned to just swap it out w/ a new lowered-gear one sometime soon. My commute is all local so I just avoided 5th a lot...

What to do with spare P5

Why not buy a manual trans from any random salvage yard through Car-Part.com and have it shipped to you? It's not very expensive that way, esp. if you have access to a shipping/loading dock to receive. If the whole country is your potential source, you have a lot more low-cost options.

Slippage while tightening lugnuts - clutch?

Tonight I was rotating my tires, and had the front end jacked up on both sides. While tightening the front lugs, I was surprised to find that as I really tightened them down, the tires would actually rotate - it took a lot of force but it would. I know normally w/ a typical open differential, if...

    A/C pressure specs

Great, thanks. Did not know you had to rev up to 1500 RPMs. I see how that'd be important b/c it sets the rate for the compressor. I was just at idle, probably 750ish. Will have to try again later. Looks like on the low side I'm pretty close to spec though.

    A/C pressure specs

Does anybody know, or know where to find, the target pressure specs for the Mazda5 A/C? Our '10 isn't quite as cold as it used to be, and there is a notable difference between when it is idling, and running down the road at a higher RPM, at least on a really hot day. My manifold gauges tell me...

    Speedo and larger tires

No s***... I'm just wondering what the norm seems to be w/ these cars. This evidence suggests that stock it under-reads by a substantial margin, but maybe that was just mine. Seeing as how it is gear-driven I'd think they'd all be the same though.

    Speedo and larger tires

Hi guys, haven't poasted here in a long time.. still rockin' the P5! I just replaced my tires w/ some General Tire AltiMax RT43, is the somewhat larger size of 255/55/R16. I specifically went w/ this tire & size to soften the ride and decrease the rather annoying high RPMs in 5th gear on the...
