2013~2016: CX-5 Skyactiv 2.5L Crank No Start (unless throttle to the floor)

I hope you’d replaced the hydraulic lift adjuster on that fallen intake rocker arm, or it could happen again.

Mazda CEO says American drivers want ICE vehicles

Before EVs can be more popular, infrastructure definitely needs to be ready, at least in the metropolitan area. And that definitely is lacking in the US currently. More advanced batteries used on EVs with longer range and fast charging are necessary too. Unfortunately we can’t see such advanced...

No, it’s highly unlikely. Failing hydraulic lift adjuster should be the culprit.

2013~2016: CX-5 Skyactiv 2.5L Crank No Start (unless throttle to the floor)

Fallen rocker arm on cylinder #4? It’s the problem happened on the 2.5L NA with cylinder deactivation before the recall! What model year is your CX-5?

    Oil Leak at 7400 miles (2024 CE T CX-5)

Well, Mazda modified the original cylinder head of the 2.5L NA for the turbo, and weakened certain area which had trouble to support the long and heavy SkyActiv-G exhaust manifold and cracked the head with coolant leak. Mazda had to modify (re-design) the cylinder head to reinforce the cracked...

Just got a 2016.5 CX-5 - Tips, Tricks and MPG

If your CX-5’s build date is 05/15, you have a 2016 CX-5. 2016.5 CX-5 is started on 02/16 build date. Your 19 mpg in city for a 2.5L AWD definitely isn’t good. My 2016 CX-5 GT AWD for city driving can constantly get ~24 mpg which is close to the EPA rating of 24. But my 2016 CX-5 2.5L AWD...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Gotta love contradictory statements by Mazda: "The level is normal if it is between the MIN and MAX marks." "If it is near or below MIN, add enough oil to bring the level to MAX.” Here is from Mazda Workshop Manual: This’s fine with 0.48 quart of gear oil to fill the front transfer case to...

2013 Mazda CX-5 Auto Fold Side Mirrors?

Yes most more luxury cars sold in Asia and Europe feature the auto-folding mirrors due to the narrower street and tight parking space. But in US Mazda doesn’t offer such feature until 2019 MY on CX-5. Consider the history of problems on Mazda’s auto-folding mirrors, it’d be better off not...

    Tail/Brake Light 'Burned Out' warning

Yes my 2000 BMW 528i has that feature too. Currently the car-shaped illustration indicates my right-rear taillight isn’t lit but the light is fine. Must be the sensor to the tail lights itself has problems and I gave up trying to fix it.

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

I don’t use Fumoto valve as I feel loosing the factory drain plug isn’t a big deal to me. But yes I’ve read there’re people shortened the Fumoto valve or at least cut a groove on the thread to overcome this shortcoming. My problem is the official Fumoto valve website claims its valve won’t...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Mazda’s fluid capacities listed in the manual are “approximate” quantities and misleading. The engine oil for the 2.5T it states 5.1 quarts but actually needs 5.5 quarts to the Max mark. For the 2.5L NA it states 4.8 quarts but needs 5.2 quarts. The worst is for rear differential it states 0.37...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

The metric system used worldwide where the liter actually is larger than the US quart, 1 liter = 1.05669 US quart. So the 4.8 quarts oil capacity stated in the manual for the 2.5L NA is 4.5 liters. Yes having the Fumoto valve on oil drain plug is convenient. The problem for me is the...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

So do you have a 2.5L NA with CD or a 2.5T? What is the engine oil capacity stated in your manual? In US we have to use all oils from the 5 qt container for oil change on either engine. Even 5L container (5.283 US quarts) used in other countries that is still not enough to make the oil level...
