Advice for Blacking Out front sidemarkers.

I am going to piant the headlight housing black, like seen on this board. I was thinking of matching the sidemarkers by blacking them out. You've seen it on alot of cars where the tailights are black but when you turn the lights on you can still see the color. Anyone on here have this done or any info on how to do it would be greatly appreaciated.

I just did this to my amber sidemarkers a couple weeks ago and they turned out great (see pic attached). I used VHT Niteshades that I ordered from my local speed shop and did about 3-4 coats because I wanted it BLACK. It was a simple process, I popped them out, cleaned them w/rubbing alcohol, propped them up, painted them, waited the recommended curing time then reinstalled them. I think they look sharp and I haven't gotten any heat from the coppas on them yet either. Then again I have a black mica P5 so it bleeeeennnds.

Ahhh crap. I thought I was giving advice on blacking out. I dont know about the side markers. I was going to tell you to start drinking as early in the day as possible. Drink as much beer as you can, use a funnel. Throw some Jack Daniels into the mix or maybe some tequila. Usually does the trick for me.

Thats some funny stuff. If I ever need to Blackout, I will keep that advice in mind.

Yep used the same technique. I did however get hasseled when it came time for inspection so I had to lighten them up using wax and polish to remove some of the tint. Actually turned out great and the gloss is back to them. But the big thing is they still meet the side reflectability requirement. Meaning they still act as a reflector when light shines on them. I will try and get some pics if you are interested.

This is true. Mine still allow light to shine thru them as well as upon them and they have sustained their reflectivity. They actually look like a dark amber/red when light shines on them now. Pretty cool!

HAHA same here. We just got a Krispy Kreme and they are so good.(thumb)

But anyway, you should consider the clearout sidemarkers too. They look sweet. The black would also look good to match the headlights.

I like the clears a lot - BUT - they can be expensive. $8 for a can of VHT was right up my alley as opposed to $80 for clears. Plus, I like it on my black car, looks stealth. Next step is the badge shaving in the rear.

WOW I didnt know the clearout ones were that expensive. I should just do black on my car instead of the clearouts.

Don't quote me on that price but from what I've heard they're pretty pricey. I think $80 would be a deal on a pair if I remember right. I know some people have gotten hook ups, you may find some at a junk yard or something but IMO it was the best $8 I spent for my car's aesthetics.

Gonna have Black rims, tinted windows, all trim removed, headlights painted black, even considering trying to do the fogs, and then the sidemarkers. Now, I just have to get up and do it. Also requires finds but if all goes well, this winter is transformation time and bye next summer, all will be good.

Go to www.bluebatmobile.com for fog overlays. He's got some smoked vinyl overlays that would go well with your theme. As far as the black sidemarkers on red lemme find a pic and I'll photochop it for you.
