any thoughts as to what is making this car tick, or not tick as the case may be?

not making power usually means blown apex seals, from the sound of the description both rotors are blown.

the interior looks really worn out as well

other than that, looks like a steal for the price, if you are willing to put in the extra money to restore it.

yea sounds like a bum motor ken, the problem with first gens is that parts are getting harder to find, i say grab a FC and swap the turbo motor in

drop and FC motor into that? hmm. or find an FC and just turbo the FC? now to find an FC on the cheap.

Corksport sells JDM 12a motors for $930 or so - would that thing drop in?

you could do that 13b in a first gen, or just find a clean fc with a bad motor i see them all the time for cheap, i would'nt trust any 12a jdm motors they are just to old. The FC just have sooo much more parts out for them the first gen's parts are getting harder to find.
you could also use this motor in either of them
