i-ELOOP missing from fuel economy monitor + Forscan queries

Hi all,

I recently picked up a second-hand 2017 Mazda 6 2.5 Wagon (Malaysian-market model).

The car did come with a few issues post-purchase, most of which have now been resolved—mainly engine-related. However, one lingering area of concern has been the i-ELOOP system.

My mechanic and I noticed a classic symptom of a failing i-ELOOP capacitor: unstable system voltage. Interestingly, no i-ELOOP warning ever appeared on the cluster. The same applied to i-STOP—it never activated and no messages were displayed. This led me to suspect that the previous owner or dealer had coded both systems off.

We went ahead and replaced the i-ELOOP capacitor, which immediately resolved the voltage instability. After that, I checked the Fuel Economy Monitor and noticed that the i-ELOOP logo and charging animation were completely absent. As far as I can recall, they were never present when I first bought the car either. For reference, below highlighted in the blue square and the text saying i-eloop is what i am missing.

I then started digging into FORScan and confirmed that both i-STOP and i-ELOOP were disabled when compared against the factory As-Built data. I’ve since successfully re-enabled i-STOP, and it’s now functioning correctly. However, I’m still running into issues when trying to re-enable i-ELOOP, specifically within the IC module.

For address 720-04-25, the values currently in the car clearly indicate i-ELOOP is disabled. When I amend only that section (without touching anything else), FORScan throws a “configuration is not compatible” error and refuses to flash.

A few questions I’m hoping someone can help with:
  • Should I be pulling the full As-Built data from Mazda’s website and reflashing all relevant modules, rather than editing individual values?
  • Is the missing i-ELOOP animation in the Fuel Economy Monitor due to i-ELOOP being disabled at the IC level?
  • Or is it possible the previous owner/dealer did something deeper—effectively “removing” i-ELOOP from the infotainment display?
Would really appreciate any insights or guidance from those more experienced with FORScan and Mazda’s i-ELOOP system.

Thanks in advance!

The missing animation is because I-Eloop is not enabled. When you modify anything in BLOCK 4 you need to also modify the Block checksum in line 720-04-01. Search for SergSlim Excel spreadsheet it will calculate the Instrument Cluster checksum for you.

Don't press Write All, Block 3 is read only and it will throw an error.

And finally If you suspect the previous owner change or "tweak" infotainment, upgrade it and it will wipe out any modification.

Thanks for the reply. Just realised about the block 4 checksum on 04-01. Completely missed that.

It’s been amended and now the animation is back as well.

Thanks!

Would it be possible for you to explain how to deactivate i-stop and i-eloop?

Please!

I found this post on Reddit. Proceed at your own risk. I'm going to try this at some point:

Hi all,

I've owned my vehicle for 3 years now. One of the only minor points of frustration I've had with ownership is the start/stop function. I developed a habit of disabling it every time I got in the car, it's a simple and easy method, but I figured if I could outright disable it and not have to worry about it ever, that would be excellent.

Changes made to SSU Module Configuration (AS BUILT):
My default config: 731-01-01 B814 C684 E131
My modified config: 731-01-01 B804 C684 E121

You may have a different default config and need to calculate checksum (last block) but the main change happens with the 3rd digit in the first block (B814 -> B804). For example, if your first block reads "0814", I would change this to "0804" rather than matching my config.

New characteristics:

  • On the infotainment system under the information section, Energy Flow Monitor still shows I-Stop as ready, but when depressing the brake pedal deeply at a stop, I-Stop no longer engages.
  • As a result of it no longer engaging, the I-Stop no longer shows up on the dashboard in green.
  • I-Stop on/off button still "works", when holding it down, the I-Stop indicator on the dashboard shows amber signaling that it's disabled, but this has no effect regardless of setting.
So, I'm not sure if this works for all regions and all configurations, but it might be worth a shot for someone who is in the same boat.

I also don't recommend tinkering with FORScan unless you do your research first and make backups. At least AS BUILT data is pretty easily reversible.

Thank you very much for your information.
Right now, I want to shut down both the I-eloop and I-stop systems simultaneously.
