I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me a hand installing a subwoofer on my new (to me) 2021.5 cx-5. If anyone has done this before, I would greatly appreciate the help. I had installed an amp and preloaded box in my 2013 Mazda 3, but I replaced my head unit, and I assume things are a bit more complicated now.
Edit: The car was manufactured in Japan for the Atlantic Canadian market. I live in New Brunswick. It is a GS, though I’m not sure which packages it has. It has a heated steering wheel, power drivers seat, and power lift gate, but no sunroof, dual zone climate, drivers seat memory, or power passenger seat.
My cx-5 is the non-Bose version, and I confirmed that I do have the amp under the passenger seat. I am looking at the powered sub pictured below. It’s very close to what I am looking for: small, cheap enough, easy to remove temporarily, decent sound boost. I’m not looking to shake panels, but I want to supplement the stock sound system and fill the cabin better. I’m not the biggest fan of how it sounds now.
- The powered sub (cone, box, and amp) includes a wiring harness.
- I’m planning to purchase a wiring kit from Amazon, which will have my power wire, battery fuse, ground wire, remote turn on wire, and speaker wire.
- I’ll also need some heat shrink and ring terminals. I’ll be soldering connections.
My questions are as follows:
1 - Where should I tap into the stock wires? I’m assuming it should be after the factory amp?
2 - What colors should the speaker wires be?
3 - Since I’m using the stock head unit and not opening it up, where does the remote turn on wire go?
4 - I don’t need a LOC right? This powered sub takes either speaker-lever or RCA input, so I should be able to cut the RCA heads and solder to speaker wires?
5 - Does it seem like I’m missing anything? I’d hate to get half way through and realize I forgot a component.
