wait, do you have a turbo AND a non-turbo skyactiv mazda? I see there's 3 non-turbo filters

and, you have 3 crappy value line filters... I would've refused them when the parts guy brought them out to the counter

my mother in-law and my niece (niece has 2 an older one and a new one) have non-turbo cx5's and my brother in-law has a CX5 turbo with about 120,000 miles on his so he has no issues using the value filters....family get togethers look like a CX5 convention.

I did a quick google search and never really found anything bad on the MV filters...most everything was pretty positive. Can you provide the scientific data/sources ie not just "someone on a forum said they were bad". It is funny that Mazda engineering would allow something crappy to be used especially with dealerships pushing extended service contracts (warranties). thanks.

A few people including me, have had bad experiences with these. I've had 2 of them leak. When I go to the dealership and ask for the ones made in Thailand, the comment usually is "oh, you want the good ones"...good enough for me.

so just a leak? I clean the surface and lube the gasket so that does not worry me..I also don't over tighten...I wonder about an actual oil filtering issue? has anyone used the MV sent in an oil analysis sample and came back with excessive insolubles etc? I am guessing being many dealerships are using them leaks are not all that common if properly installed or they would get tired of paying the returns for leaky filters..

Yes, did all that, was properly installed the way I've been doing for over 40 years including at the dealership and small garages where I worked. Seemed to be leaking out of the stamping by the inlet holes. They don't have to be common, one or two is all it takes for me to not use them. I NEVER had a problem with the other OEM filters from Mazda.
Hey, if you trust them then all the more power to you. I'm just citing personal experience and preference.

for such a small price $ difference its not worth it to get the MV one. Let the dealership use those for the freebie oil changes for the people who go there.
My choice is always use the non MV for oil and air. I only use the MV cabin filter from time to time or Wix.

ps the non MV one has markings how to tighten it properly. By Hand!! and lube the filter gasket. Been doing that for long time. Hate it when people use wrenches to tighten non-element type oil filters.

right... not worth nickel and diming over an engine that's worth at least $5000 brand new, excluding labor and other parts to replace when it blows

have you seen actual data that you can share? I emailed Mazda but have not heard back. I seriously would like to know what failures or shortcomings there are. Again it seems odd that Mazda would risk their reputation selling a low quality poor performing filter with their name on it.
Are you saying that if you use the MV filter you are going to blow up your engine? I don't think so or Mazda would be getting lambasted....

Plenty of people on the BITOG forums have talked about this, including disecting the filters to compare... the gasket design is inferior, and many have already said there that it tends to leak... the filter media itself isn't as good either

if it doesn't leak, the engine will probably be fine for the duration of warranty... if it does leak and leaks bad, then serious issues might occur

do you want to chance this over saving 5 bucks?

I did not find any negative on BITOG instead most were positive...can you direct me to the negative ones as maybe they are not coming up when I search on BITOG. what are you searching? I am searching the part number so maybe it is coming up under something else thanks. it has nothing to do with the money it has to do with is it really truly inferior or just based on something someone said one time....with no factual basis...again Mazda puts their name on them so that seems odd if they are so bad that Mazda would risk reputation.....If Mazda would sell an inferior oil filter with their name on it what else would they do?

the MV filter has low chance to blow your engine, its just inferior one ...but no different if you go and buy aftermarket one from say one of the big auto stores.

They dont sell the MV one in Europe and other parts of the world as far as I know. They dont even sell the Thai one in Europe, just the Japanese one.

The MV line is just a way to offer cheaper "alternative parts" on the US market because people here like cheaper and also free oil changes where applicable.

You didn't look hard enough, here's one...

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/mazda-filter.391126/

But that thread also doesn't have anything more than people saying they don't think it's as good. Again, without proof.
No, but people mentioned the same thing I was seeing, leaking plus metal chips inside as a dealer service manager described it. I didn't even know this thread existed. I won't use them, just as I used to be a diehard Purolator fan years ago until 1 or 2 leaked on me, won't use those either. you're free to think what you want.

Just picked up two of these filters again today on way to work from Mazda dealer. Price increased since last time I bought two. They were $12.25 each and now are $15.22
