Engine malfunction? 2017 CX-5

Hello. 2017 Mazda CX5 60Kmiles.
Engine light came up yesterday - couldn`t find any code with my OBD code reader.
However I erased the code anyway and the check engine light was gone.
Today same problem the cars computer said ENGINE malfunction...I erased the code (eventhough there was not code) and engine light is gone ..
Seems like the idling is fluctuating from 700 to 900....
Wife filled up the car with correct gas

)) 3 days ago ...
Car runs just fine otherwise.
Is this common on this car?

Does it actually say Engine Malfunction or is it the CEL? If it says Engine Malfunction where is it saying it? Dash or one of the screens in the infotainment system.
