What's next for the CX-5?

De gustibus. I personally like the design. I find it way more atractive than other cars in this class.
true. we all have different tastes no doubt:). We have put 30,000 miles on ours since the end of January of 23 and I like the handling and the drivetrain feel. I can stomach the front end and side view ok but the back end just looks wrong to me. Fortunately I can see the back end while driving..

If Mazda chooses CVT, I'll say bye bye. That would be a reason for me to ditch the car.
There is 0 commonality between a conventional belt/chain-driven CVT like what you'd find in a Forester or Rogue with the eCVT system found in the RAV4 hybrid. The "ratios" are all governed by an electric motor, which decides where to shuffle EV and gasoline power. (whether to the wheels directly or to the hybrid battery) This motor is called MG1. The hybrid battery can then use that power with MG2 (the main EV traction motor) or MGR (the rear AWD electric motor). It's not adjusting the transmission ratio to change the torque multiplier or drive ratio.

IMHO, Toyota should have come up with a better name than eCVT. I remember when I owned a '05 Prius, Toyota did not call it eCVT. Planetary gears, that was what Toyota called it.

Have you guys seen this spy photo yet? Looks a little rugged to be a CX5, but you never know. Too early for a CX50 update?

Interesting...Great find! Hmm...Yeah seems a bit early for a CX-50 refresh especially considering the CX-5 hasn't had a major update in eons.

Quite frankly, I like the current CX-5 design, biased of course, and I would feel sorry if they come up with some CX-90 like design for CX-5. I wish they keep the tiptronic gearbox and, maybe, just mabe, they do minor design alterations to the current bread and butter Mazda sell in the US-Canada market.

I hear ya, it's a sign of a great design! That said, Gen 1 owners said the same thing when Gen 2 came out and now Gen 2 is probably favored more...If the CX-5 continues, it's going to need some major updates to keep those sales numbers up.

Having both a Gen1 and a Gen2, I liked the side-body design of the Gen1, but the front-end design of the Gen2 :)

The thing I dislike is the rounded/humped roof that makes the side view a bit jellybean-ish. Hope they flatten that in a new version.

I don't like what I see in the spy photo.
The front end styling looks dated.
The wheels look like Mazda's, but what else?
The side mirrors don't look like Mazda's.
The design around the grille doesn't look Mazda to me.
