Swapping a US Mazda6 CMU with one from another country?

My brother’s 2016 6 GT-Reserve is having issues with the infotainment system. It keeps rebooting endlessly.

We tried removing the ribbon that controls the capacitive touch to disable it to eliminate the “ghost touch” issue but it didn’t work.

It needs a new CMU that controls the infotainment system. They’re on back order with no ETA. We’ve checked dozens of local and online places to find a replacement.

eBay has a number of CMUs from Australia Mazdas.

Can anyone say for sure it won’t work? It’s selling for $160 US. I might take the gamble and see what happens.

FYI - From the back of our CMU, it’s part number KA0G 66 9C0B

According to MazdaSwag.com, here are “compatible” part numbers …. none of which we can track down.

There are plenty on eBay here in the US. Just bought one from Texas that came out of a 2020 CX-5 and put it in my 2018 CX-9. All the GEN 65 CMUs should be compatible. Newer units reportedly have better hardware.

I check eBay regularly but haven’t seen much …. until last week. I found something in Arizona that was posted for barely a couple hours. I snagged, it, installed it, and everything is working again. Bonus, as you said, ended up with a newer one that boots faster.
