CX-9 Cargo length?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering does anyone know how deep the CX-9 cargo area is with the rear seats down?

On the odd occasion I carry doors for my work, these are standard height (as far as I know). Mazda only quotes cubic feet or meters which is no help. Thanks in advance!

My ‘21 is 56” from the 2nd row center armrest to the tailgate latch. From the back of the seats, to the edge of the storage area is 50” straight back from the seat.

Thanks Buster,
The doors are about 80 inches long so it will be the from the tailgate latch to the rear of the front seats if it has any hope of fitting.

I grabbed a tape measure and did a quick check. The rear sill where the hatch closes is curved. Right at the tailgate latch in the center, it's about 82". But on the furthest left/right ends of the hatch opening, it's maybe 76"-77". And that might not include 1"-2" where the plastic on the rear hatch door intrudes into the cargo space. These measurements are approximate and measured to where I have the front seats. If the front seats are pulled forward a bit, it will be close but it might work for you.

That sounds about right. I bought a large 130 gallon aquarium once and transported it in the back of the CX-9, but I had to move the driver's side forward a little bit because the top of the aquarium would have made contact with the rear windshield if I didn't. I think the aquarium was something like 6ft long and a little over 2ft tall.

@gusg, if you pull the front seats forward a bit, you should be fine. Depending on how many doors you have to move, you could also prop them up on the headrests so one end of the door is raised - the diagonal should give you another couple of inches of clearance. You'd just need to secure the doors to make sure they don't shift around while making turns.

...maybe... might... a little goosey to base a buying decision on...
Actually, you're in luck. I went out and carefully measured for a (virtual) 36"x80" door. With the front seat in my usual driving position, and I'm 6'1" with long legs (34" inseam), it's exactly 80" from the inside of the tailgate where the corner of the door would be, to the back of the front seat backrest. So even if you need an extra inch or two for the carton cntaining the door, you should have little compromise for a tolerable driving position even with several doors stacked up. Good luck!

Thank you guys for your help. Yes it looks like I am in luck, I was hoping the CX-9 would do the job otherwise it was going to be a van.

Good news indeed!
