2014.5 Mazda CX-5 GS
Hi guys,

Been a lurker here for about a month before finally buying my 2014.5 CX-5 GS. Glad to be aboard in good company.

Last week I found in my garage a new looking, black automotive type bolt under the front left side of my CX-5. I've attached pics to this post. It's about 1" long and has some blue thread glue on it. I keep my garage clean and there are no other vehicles parked inside that the bolt could have come from. It should be noted that my CX-5 is driving fine with no odd sounds.

A couple of days ago I had navigation installed into my GS at my local dealership and brought the bolt with me. I did not speak to the service manager, only the front desk service clerk. I was told that there was no way they could look over the entire vehicle and determine if it came from the CX-5. I will be returning and speaking with the service manager next week when I have an extra day off.

In the meantime I'm looking for opinions or knowledge on this bolt. Can anyone confirm based on the bolt pattern and size that it comes from a Mazda?

Definitely looks like something Mazda would use; but from what???

The thread lock compound looks to be undisturbed and the coating on the whole fastener shows no abrasion from being used. IMHO someone dropped it when assembling your car and a) it either got lost in one of the many spots that could trap it or b) they didn't bother to look for it and just reached for another one to keep your car moving down the line. It happened to be shaken loose and managed to drop out of its hiding place in your garage. I would not worry about it.

Having done several bare-metal restorations on top of routine maintenance I can say that "it happens". The big difference is in the garage at home, you may not have another on at hand and need to spend a lot of time with a flashlight looking for the one you took off something. And, as you pointed out, yours looks new.

I agree. It looks to never have been screwed in as blue locktite is shiny and intact. Probably was lost in a railing during assembly. Better than what my father found in his factory bought Chevy. Was a rattle in the door and when he removed the panel he discovered an crumpled coke can an assembly worker had tossed. Also three exhaust header bolts were missing.

Wow lucky you, yours came with a free bolt! Now you have an extra to keep in the glove box. It's certainly not big enough to worry about, it would be impossible to find where it would go and like others said looks like it was never installed.

Thanks for all of the replies, guys. I agree, snorlax, that considering the almost pristine shape of the bolt and perfect thread glue that it's most likely a dropped bolt from the factory line.
