Brake cleaner, wd40, adhesive remover, goo gone (automotive store kind not household), rubbing alcohol, or even dish soap would take that off.

Brake claener?? I wouldn't recommend that.
But sometimes its just a matter of rubbing it with your fingers, until they are raw, of course.
My side moldings were on for nearly 4 yrs before I removed them and that's what it took to get the residual off. I'm not alone either.

Just throwing it out there since he said he exhausted his other options. I have done it myself and watched body shops do it to expensive paint jobs. It works fine. We're talking a quick spray and a wipe with a fresh rag. Not even a second on the paint. Factory clear coats will be fine for that period of time. Just make sure to wash it off afterward. Hell, I have seen people have good results cleaning white cars with soft scrub to get things off that clar bar and dish soap wouldn't remove. Carb cleaner would be a bad idea though.

You could try goof off or mineral spirits too. They both work fine.

Thats what I did... started with a hair dryer and fishing wire- then went to goo be gone- then went to just rubbing the excess off with my fingers and a good car wash/ polish/ wax job looks sooo much better!
