2009 Mazda5 Fog Lights

Does anyone know how to open the stock fog lights?

Define open? The bulbs are accessed from under the car. Remove the lower engine cover/splash shield, pull connector from bulb, rotate bulb 1/8 turn counterclockwise, and pull out. The fog light units are screwed to the backside of the bumper, and I think it would be easiest to remove the front bumper cover to take them off. The lenses are one piece with the reflector/bulb holder.

There is a metal bracket inside of the fog light that is preventing me from using HID bulbs because the HID bulb is longer than the OEM bulb.

Are you sure that you have the correct HID kit (H11)? I am sure there are members on here with HID fog conversions, and I don't recall any modification required to the lamp housing.

I can't help you with this one, as I just run Hella yellow H11 bulbs in mine.

Yes I purchased the H11 kit. I am not sure if there is another or different H11 kit????

it seems like your not the only one with this problem

if you could snap a picture of the rear of the fog light i might know a way to remove that part

Here is a picture of the front of the fog light and as you can see there is a metal cover that is held in place with a small phillips head screw that is preventing me from using the HID bulb.

you can bend that part a little or force it out
