fuel sending unit question..

So i took the sending unit out of the tank to change out the sock.. The sock was held on by a black clip..
My question is what is the little round black clip for the is nex to it. Is this something that needs to be checked out??

I guess i need to work on my early morning colors.. The clips were white not black..
Anyways im pointing at the clip im talking about in the pic. Sorry if its small and crappy its a phone photo..

yeah I'd like to know what it is too. When I pulled it on my old one some really dirty gas came out. Almost like it's a sediment chamber or something. But not sure. I'd say on a new one just make sure it's properly clicked all the way on. Doesn't the new filter/pump housing come with a new one of these already there?

Not sure what that is. The diagram in the repair manual doesn't have it identified separately.

Id bet a new unit would come with it. Some units have a high and low pressure filter.. If ours did the sock would be the low is my guess. I thought it was the high but i pulled the clip out and there wasnt anything in it. Just the clip and a rubber o-ring..
