Anybody ever try to utilize the rack to the max? Looks like 4 feet is just a little wider than the car and 8 feet could overhang the top of the windshield by a foot, with like 6" over the spoiler. Some good tie-downs and you could be there. I'm tired of paying to get a couple panels delivered.

Why the hell not? I drove 30 miles with a 4X8 sheet of MDF strapped to the top of my old Grand Am... and that did'nt even have a rack.

I've done it and I don't even have racks, I just used those cardboard triangles they give away at the hardware store. You just have to remove the antenna and you'll be fine.

Something like this? ALL the time! You can fit 8' 2x4s in the cabin all day long. 10' material needs to go on the roof. Plywood goes on the rack just fine, as does drywall. Probably the most weight I've had on there is 4 sheets of 1/2" drywall plus 10 or so 2x4's (I couldn't find a pic of that).

Anyway- yeah, the roof rack rocks. Not sure why everyone takes it off...

(In the first pic, I had a DIY bike rack on the car. That's why the sheet of plywood is so far back.)
