Factory racks and Thule cargo bag review

Okay so I used my factory roof racks and Thule Expedition cargo bag for a trip down to Charleston this weekend. As you can see from the pics we had it loaded to the max. The bag held two suitcases a laptop, diaper bag, baby bed, and miscellaneous stuff. Behind the bag and attached to the racks was the stroller. On the way home we went through about half an hour of really steady rain. When I got home and unpacked nothing was wet. There was almost no wind noise when the bag was removed and only had the racks on the car. Only down side was a drop in mileage, which was expected. I usually get between 27-29 mpg on the highway. This time 22-23 mpg. All in all I am very impressed.

Good stuff! Did you drop down anything between the roof and the bag/stroller?
If not, any noticeable scratches from friction?

There were no scratches. The bottom of the bag is very soft and the stroller was mostly resting on its wheels.

Glad to see that it worked out well. On Friday, we are taking our first short road trip (to go camping) with the 18 square foot Yakima box on top!

I guess some people are more sensitive to this than others. when I have just the rack on, the wind noise is quite apparent; when I remove them it's like driving in a cocoon, real quiet.
I like that bag, I've always thought of getting a box, but maybe the bag is a better way to go, thanks!
