Why being a cheap bastard self-pwns

So I was driving to the bookstore earlier... not 2 miles from my house, the engine dies on me.... I tried to start it and the starter spins super fast... uh oh... so I know then that the timing belt broke or jumped time as it's making NO compression

go back 2 weeks ago, I put on a timing belt on my corolla beater... it has about 220k on it, but being a sh*tbox, I didn't want to throw money at it and just slapped a new timing belt, seals, water pump, and serpentine belts on... I didn't care to put on a new tensioner because I have rarely seen them go bad... until today

the grease seal in the tensioner rotted out, leaking all the grease out and the tensioner seized and roasted the belt till it broke... I've put on less than 50 miles on this new belt so far and I'm glad I didn't break down far from home... Ari Yallon was kind enough to drag my car home

SO... I now have to spend money on another belt, buy a new tensioner, and waste more time on this car in this heat
good thing the Toyota 7A-FE engine is non-interference :D

Damn that sucks... I always do a timing belt component kit when doing a timing belt for peice of mind. Most people are saying im just wasting money but not doing it and ending up like you would cost me twice as much beings that I cant do this stuff myself.

moral of the story is, don't be a cheap ass! spend the extra money and do it right the first time! this also goes for buying OEM parts if there is a clear difference in quality from aftermarket!

sometimes the saying pay the money now to save the money later

sorry to hear that happen, but you live and you learn =) its the way of life lol
