Has anyone installed the new Kartboy short throw shifter yet?? I already have the bushings, and I was wondering how much improvement there is. Also, has anyone compared the B&M with the Kartboy?

shifter

i will be installing my kartboy shifter sometime soon. the order has been placed this week and hopefully i'll get it sometime next week. as soon as i get it and put it in i'll fill everbody in. unfortunately i won't be able to compare it directly to the b&m as i don't know anybody close to home who has one.

we've sold quite a few of them. i'm still waiting for feedback
i guess that everyone is out driving their car and not complaining about it :)

you might want to PM Cruzer and ask him what he thinks. he iinstalled his last week.

thanks
Tom

Mine is in

I put mine in on thursday night it took about 1 hour of work. I think the thing rules. For 80 Bucks you cant go wrong. the shifter and the bushing are in and the shifting is tighter and just feels like it should feel like that for are car. when i went on the drive after hte install i relized holy crap are stock shifting was s***.
and i got candy with it and a die cut decal( i havnt put on yet because i only have one, if i had one for each side skirt i would put them on the car.HINT HINT Tom).:D

thats all i wanted to hear...tom(or mark), you'll be hearing from me soon placing an order for one!!!

I don't have a P5 but the shifter rocks.. especially if you have the shift bushings as well. Hope you like them like I do..

I have the B&M and it's great. Price difference because it's made of solid machined stainless steel instead of a welded tubular assembly (see Kartboy's). Also, it doesn't rely on the same bushings design to pivot (ball) as the stock shifter, it's a very different design (see pic). It's your choice. Whatever you decide, you'll discover how s*** the stock shifter is.

I ahve, in a round-about way. A few weeks ago a friend and I installed a B&M short shifter in an MP3. Last night a different friend (a P5 owner) installed a Kartboys in my P5.

Installation is comparable in time and effort. The only difference is that the heal of my hand isn't sore today from banging in the assembly that is on the B&M. ;)

Performance comparrison:

'01 MP3 with B&M short shifter and Kartboy bushings
'02 P5 with Kartboy all the way around.

My throw seems a bit longer and it seems to take a small amount more energy (read strength) to shift the Kartboy (P5) over the B&M (MP3). The Kartboy and the B&M are comparrable in feel, but that is mostley related to the bushings and nothing more. The guy that helped me plast night has the bushings in his P5 and the stock shifter. His shifting patterns are much tighter and more solid feeling, only his throw is longer.

I dunno if this was what you were lookin for, but please don't hesitate to ask any questions . . .

I also had a hard time getting in the B&M, upper o-ring finally got shaved after an hour of trying countless ways to get the assembly to go down. But it was worth the effort.

Since the Kartboy is made of a welded tubular assembly vs solid Stainless on the B&M, is it as strong (the feel I mean)?

Oh yeah. It is based on the same design we have in the cars now. And since is seems more preasure is needed to shift, i believe that some flex would be evident.

In short, a damn fine shifter those boys made. :D

I'm not trying to devalue your "work of art" here Pal, my 12 years experience as a Technician in Mechanical engineering (sheet metal mostly), 3 years of training in the field and 3 years of training as a machinist/die maker weren't necessary to tell me that your shifter (the photo you posted elsewhere) is of welded construction. Sincerely sorry to have used the word "tubular", but I see a tube down at the point of linkage, that's all.

To be honest with you, now that I know you shifter is as good as the B&M and the bushings you offer are also of excellent workmanship, I should have bought them, only problem is getting them here up north. You should think of marketing them in Canada. Sorry if I offended you in any way.
