I know i have seen in a thread a few years back but for the life of me cannot find it now. I have a spare set of 4 piston rx7 calipers that i want to use on my g/f's car just wondering if anybody has the how to for this

well if you cant use them on her car I know a certain Fc that could use some...

*cough*sunday is my birthday*cough*

lol

I know someone who used rx7 calipers and rx8 rotors on his second gen mx6 and I have no doubt it will work on a protege. I don't know where your how-to is, but if you need to get rid of those fd calipers drop me a line!!!

They are FC calipers and i am wondering if they will bolt up to the stock knuckles running MSP rotors

Try it and report back.

According to Ken at PG, rear MSP calipers are uniquely their own. Nothing else bolts up BUT other pads will work.

Well here is the issue thus far. I need to find a way to attach the calipers to the knuckles as the knuckles are not threaded...not a big deal I can tap the knuckle. The real issue it seems so far is that I am going to have to find a oem replacement rotor with the correct offset. Somebody has said 2001 jdm wrx sti rotors work but those seem a litle hard to get a hold of. I know twilight protege was working on a kit for this but stomaching the $500+ he is looking to get for just the custom rotors is a little hard at this point.

I'm working on an adaptor bracket for this that should apply to the BJ GD GE and GF platforms if anyone is still interested.

I should be able to have several brackets made for a couple different size OEM rotors from 11.1" ( MSP 98+ 626 and early Mazda6) 11.8" (late Mazda6) and 12.6" (MazdaSpeed 6 and 3)

You cant use a rotor with a deeper offset since the stock rotor is just a few scant MM from the balljoint so a bracket is needed.

Also the bolt holes are just slightly further apart on the FC/FD caliper than the GD- GE- GF and BJ knuckle.

The only things I can say for sure are than they wont fit 10.2" rotors ( stock on all GE cars and 5 lug BJ's and they wont fir OE 15" wheels.

The 11.1" setup might clear OE Probe 16" wheels but may need a spacer to clear the spokes.

Bump this thread if you are interested.

Sounds interesting lmk the details. I am currently running rota slipstreams in 15" which cleared on my msp calipers and fit on my rx7

Just to clarify the 5 lug Protege and MSP brakes will bolt on to any 2nd gen Probe MX-6 and 4th/5th gen 626.

The non MS Proteges with 5 lugs use the same rotors as the 93-97 cars as well as the same front pads and proabably the same front calipers. However the rear calipers and pads are different. The Protege rear pads are about 1/4" taller than the 93-97 and even the MSP/ 98+ 626 rear pads.

By swapping the Protege rear caliper, slider brackets and pads you can get a bit more pad area in the rear and some extra braking capacity. It also effectively alters the bias slightly dur to the extra swept area and people who have done the swap say it helps to reduce dive and makes for a better overal track car if you need to use stock diameter rotors.

How much for the brackets...?

I cant discuss prices now. I'll make an official thread when I have a product to sell. For now I'm trying to decide what they should be made out of ie aluminum or steel.

Look at the space between the outer most surface of the caliper and the rear of the spokes. If there is about an inch or more there the RX7 calipers should fit.

If 11.1" rotors wont work I'm confident the 11.8" mazda6 rotors will and that the 12.6 MS6/3 rotors will offer all the room I'll need to clear the knuckle.

I'll post pics to show what the clearance issues are so everyone understands what will and wont work.

Thank you for the show of support, I'll keep you all updated.

ls six, do you have an estimated time frame for your brackets? I would love to run a set of RX-7 calipers on my MSP, but my brakes are shot now. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good news. Thx!

At the moment I cant say. I'm doing a lot od basic maintenance right now that I ignored all winter and I'm doing a Protege suspention swap at the same time so I wont be able to pick up the work until next week at the soonest.

Just a quick poll: Who's interested and what size rotor are you interested in?

Price shouldnt change from one size to another so it comes down to what you need and what you can use.

Possible rotor sizes are : 11.1" .... 11.8".... 12.6". The smallest should fit inside most 16" wheels, the middle might fit 16's and should fit 17" and bigger. the big ones will need 17" or bigger to fit.

Just the opposite here...smaller the better. Anything bigger than a msp rotor tends to be overkill anyway and would probably upset the bias.

I hope I can fit the caliper to MSP stock rotors.

I think there are AutoX and short track members who would like the various benefits of light weight 4 piston calipers but have no reason to srep up to larger than stock rotors and wheels.

4 piston would be very nice, even in stock size. I would like to get a cross drilled rear rotor at the least. A vented slotted rotor would be preferred if that is possible with your kit.
