How To - Mazda 6i - rear brake install - with PICS!

Rear pad replacement for a 2005 4cyl Mazda 6i - I am not sure what years and model this will be compatible for, but please let me know so that I can update the how to.


Tools needed:

*Brake caliper tool kit* - you can use it for free from Autozone (with deposit of $55)
Floor Jack
Jackstands
New Replacement Pads
Anti-Seize Lube - very important!!!
9/16 socket and ratchet drive
9/16 combo wrench
various pliers - because you never know
Screwdriver - because you never know
Hammer - because you never know
Flashlight

Step 1: Jack up car and safely secure the jackstands in the appropriate positions.

Step 2: Remove wheels and assess the situation.

Step 3: Get in there pussy.

Step 4: Make sure that parking brake is not engaged!

Step 5: Using the 9/16 socket or wrench, remove the slides from the top of the caliper and pull top off of caliper.

Step 6: Remove "V" shaped metal clip and pull off old pads. Remove both shims from both sides of pads.

Next step, compressing the Piston.

Step 7: Pull out your brake caliper tool and pull out the correct pieces for the piston.

Step 8: Once the tool is extended into position, turn clockwise to compress the piston making sure to leave the groove in a up and down position (see pic 5)

Step 9: Place old shims onto the new pads.

Step 10: Put new pads and shims into caliper bracket, and place the piston portion of the caliper back over the new pads.

Step 11: LUBE UP CALIPER SLIDES!!

Step 12: Replace caliper slide with the notched/grommeted slide in the Upper/Top position and tighten up with 9/16.

Step 13: Put tires on, Start car and set the brakes. Bleed if necessary and always check you brake fluid to ensure no problems. Lower car off of Jackstands.
