Improving Sound Quality With Stock HU

Hey, I am looking to improve the audio quality of my MS3 Sport, but I want to keep the look of everything stock. Meaning, I do not want a new head unit or large sub boxes. Also, I'm not looking for anything crazy loud or extreme, just something that's a decent improvement over factory. The problem is I am not completely familiar with car stereos and would like some advice on it.

Here's my basic plan so far. Replace all 4 speakers, amplify them, and add a small 8" sub (looking at the jack panel hide away ones). Will amplifying my speakers give me much better quality since the HU will remain the same? Are signal processors (like the RF 3sixty) designed to improve the sound of stock units, or are they just to tune them? I imagine you can use one amp for both the speakers and woofer, right?

I'm looking to spend around $400-$500, what are my options?

Yeah, you can get an amp that reserves channels for highs and lows, but I think it would be cheaper to just get two smaller amps. Also, worry about just replacing the components in the front doors, the rear doors barely do anything. So get some really nice components for the front. The sound quality coming out of the CD player is really good, it's the speakers that get in the way, so if you replace the speakers and get a little 8 incher sub back there, you will be very pleased.

A good rule of thumb to improve the sound system while doing it cheaply and discretely is to replace the front door speakers, tweeters, and then amp them. This alone is usually fine for most people.

Kain how are you getting away with 20% tint here in va. I gave 35% and I almost s*** my pants everytime I see fairfax's finest.

I live/work in the City of Alexandria. I rarely go into Fairfax county. The cops here only care about speeding. I've had louds exhausts, dark tint, lowered suspension, no front plate, etc., and each time I've gotten pulled for speeding, they didn't care about the rest.

Where do you live in Alexandria? I work right off of Eisenhower Avenue.

You're the guy who works for WMATA, right? I take the blue line to work and I see your car all the time parked between the train yards and the Mill Road DMV. I live near Landmark.

I second that when i had 30% on my g35 coupe, Fairfax County cops were always asking me about the tint (thank god they only checked it once).

Hah, I feel your pain. I'm also in Fairfax, VA. My old protege 5 had 35% tint and no front plate since I moved up from FL. I was able to get away with it for a while, but eventually a Fairfax cop got me. I would love to tint my MS3, but 55% for fronts is insane.... doesn't seem worth the money but the same time I don't want to s*** my pants everyday driving home having illegal tint.

Thanks for the advice so far, I'm glad to know the stock HU won't hinder me too much. I'll look into amplifying them, replacing the front two speakers and eventually getting that 8" sub tucked away in the back.

Where are you located? If you have a Tweeters down in your area they do realy good work. Also you might want to Dynamat the doors, I found that the doors ratttle alot when listening to some songs with alot of bass drops. Infinity has some good speakers. I'm def. going the same route as you, I want a better sound system but no aftermarket head unit, I like our stockers
