Hmmmm... Zooming way the hell in on the original of that shot, it appears that whatever it started life as (MGB or MGC) it now has a V-8!

Edit:

MGB-GT with the V8 not V6.

They only made a few of he V8s for road racing.

Ah, got it. It also doesn't appear to be the MGC hood after all. No horizontal bulge at the front.

Yeah, the MG?-GTs are gorgeous. One of the few cars that looks better as a coupe than a convertible. I'd love to get one with a good body and drop in a turbo'd Miata engine, a 13B or a Jaguar V-12!

...Ok, I'm kidding about the V-12, the goal after all was more power and reliability!

OK, yeah, but finding a V8 MG is significantly harder than finding a "normal" MG with the 4. Swapping out the motor would be something I'd like for power and reliability. Really, if I had the budget, I'd swap out virtually everything under the (super-sexy) skin with nice, new, high-quality, reliable, Mazda mechanical and electrical parts.

Then again, if I had endless money, rebuilding it as a vintage-correct piece, with all-new wiring, rebuilt engine, etc. would be even sweeter.

It's nice to dream, isn't it? For now, I'm just going to aspire to do what my 2-year old told me today.
