18x7.5 w/ +38mm offset OK??

2007 MS3 Black Mica GT
I'm looking to pick up a set of black Enkei EM5s from TireRack (pictured below) and use them with the stock rubber. Their recommended size is 18x7.5 w/ +38mm offset. I expected the offset to be +42'ish. Just wanted to make sure that was ok before ordering. I did searches but all I found was people running 8" or wider, not 7.5". Thanks!

they will fit perfectly I have 18x8 38 mm offset you should check tread show s your wheels befeore creating this one

He doesnt have the rims yet.
BTW, sorry for not fully reading your first post in regards to tire size.

I think as long as you keep the stock tires, and neverget anything bigger, you should be okay.
 
Cool thanks guys. I just wanted to verify before i spent the cash. I should have known I could trust tirerack's recommendataion.

1 more question...if the wheel sits a little off center from the stock location will it stick out more or be sunk in more with the 38mm offset?

A lower positive offset will move the tire outwards.

The factory offset is what, 52? That means these rims are 14mm closer to the fender edge from the offset alone, plus what ever the difference in rim width is. I would be very careful about bumps and potholes.
My main concern about significantly changing the offset is that I'm afraid of screwing up suspension geometry. I know just enough about that stuff to know that too much of a change might screw up the handling characteristics, but not enough to know what constitutes too much of a change.

I used the wheel/tire comparison tool at
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

and this is what it came up with when I plugged in 225/40.
"Package will stick out 19 mm (0.7'') farther. Make sure that you have enough room under the fender. If not, consider narrower tires or higher offset. "
For stock tires on those rims it says
"Package will stick out 14 mm (0.6'') farther. Acceptable for most cars. "

The factory is 52.5. To much of a change is anything more than 4mm; so for the speed 3 the offset range is 48-52.5. Lots of people on here think that if it does not rub the offset is okay.

Offset affects the steering geometry's scrub radius, possibly leading to problems with torque steer or self-centering characteristics. Offset also affects the suspension's motion ratio, which directly determines the effective spring and damper rates. With the center of the wheel being farther out on lets say a 38mm offset. There is more leverage acting on the suspension, this lowers the effective spring and damper rates.

So anybody running lower than 48. (no)(smash)

Wait a sec! My wheels are only 18X7.5 so I should be alright then right?

This s*** is kind of confussing I'm not going to lie.. lol!
 
The offset on the speed 3 should remain in the 48-52.5mm range on all widths of wheels that fit 7,7.5,8 and 8.5 if you are brave enough.

Your offset will need to change depending on the width you decide on.
The is some lieniency in this..but if you go really wide..your offset will have to change.

I would go into it right now and show you how it works..but I am too damn tired..and the info is readily avaialbe many places if you just search for it.

Do your research is all I can say.

Well yes that may be the case is you were crazy enough to put 9.5'' wheels on a speed 3 however at that piont you would be making many other suspension changes to make it all work properly. as well as a wide body kit.lol. I have done my research, I am running the widest rim that will fit with proper offset 8.5'' with 52mm offset. 0.5 mm from factory which is ideal. suspension geometry gets messed up with the wrong offset. Please tell me what is wrong with my statements.
