Unichip and larger injectors thread

I tuned one recently for 1 hour out of the box and it works.
More results as we get more tuning time.

It was using wrx blue 440s.

Sam have you done any with GT28rs, 550cc injectors front mount IC. and have you used the new Q model unichip.

This one had a T3/T4 so its not a problem to do one with a larger turbo.
We don't use the new model one, only the old version.

Wait, so you tuned a larger turbo with the 440's? And there were no issues?

Hopefully that means it'll be fine for the stock turbo with the 440's. Have you ever tuned a Unichip for larger injectors in person before, Sam? What other mods did the MSP have? Cause if it's similar to my setup, I might just send my Unichip back to you again and forget about getting it done locally.

Major mods aside from the unichip and injectors...
t3/t4
3" tbe
built bottom end bored out with 9:1 comp
Port matched intake and exhaust mani
Fmic

^^ Very nice! And I see your MAF is relocated, too .. Did that cause any difficulties with tuning? Have you run a dyno yet?

We have similar mods, save that I'm on the stock block. No built anything. :(

i had my unichip dyno tuned up here in canada and it ran awesome

i had a similar setup to discreet speed

i was running:
T3/T4 turbo setup,
custom 3" downpipe with electronic cutout (tuned it open and closed)
3" GHL TB
440cc injectors
FMIC

and on idle and cruising i was running perfectly at 14.7

i was dyno'd at 226whp at 8psi and open dump

then i turned the boost up to 10 for the whole summer... then turned it up to 12psi which lasted about 3 weeks... but it was fun :)

so if i use the whole rule of 1psi=12whp then i should have been up around 274ish... give or take haha. i dont know the exact numbers at 10 or 12 but i know that 12psi pulled pretty damn hard and was completely different then 8

now im in the process of rebuilding the engine and starting a whole new turbo kit from scratch again.

^^ Did you have any troubles at 10psi? I'm still trying to figure out how high I want to set the boost level when the time comes. I'm wavering between 9 and 10. Definitely nothing higher than 10, though .. My MSP is all I've got, I'd be walking without it!

Thanks for the dyno info, though. :D

10psi was great all summer long.. soo much fun to drive and perfect power for the car... but warning: once you up the boost, it is oh so hard to not keep going up haha

Nope his was the first non stock injector MSP I did. I was going to do it on mine, but I just put it off since I didn't care anymore with my Haltech E8 sitting around. There aren't many active MSP that are modded with full bolt ons where I can map one off of.
I've considered flying out to a meet in each area this summer to come tune a group of cars at a time and get a lil vacation time in at the same time. I'll make a thread and see what happens.

I think it worked out pretty good for that short hour I had to make a fuel map from scratch. If you want send it back and just pay for shipping $10 and I'll do it for free since you already paid for it before but never used it.

No no dyno numbers, Sam tuned it at about 1.2 bar of boost.
Sam?
Not bad for the 1 hour. Stayed right on that 911 turbo's ass for a lil bit but we never had a chance to really get on it, especially with the full load.

Not enough for me. Remember my aggressive timing map I used on my car that I showed you? I need to do one for you like that when we get more time. Get me some race gas and I'll make that B timing switch really worthwhile.

Aaaaah, neither of you two haz dyno numberz?!?!111!>!!1l3rur

(sad1)

Dyno #'s are just for tuning purposes IMO. The #'s spewed from one dyno to another have way too many variables. I guess you can get a good idea of what kind of power you are making.

hey i know we spoke the other night about this sam. good work so far. do you think you'll be able to iron out the idle portion so that it stays away from 12:1 ratios completely? i know you said something about using the AC at times or not revving it excessively at idle either. you think more tuning will cure all of that? or is this just something that closed loop is going to always fight back on?

still, good stuff, especially seeing that unichip told me not to even try when i asked :)

I think its going to be a closed loop issue only. I'd have to sit and mess with it a little longer more than the 5 mins I had. I got it to hold 13 or above when it was fighting for a little bit but I dialed it back b/c sometimes it kick into 16 at idle. No big deal and will save gas at idle, but b/c the AFR will be lean may throw a CEL once the PCM learns the fuel trims. Into boost worked out fine.
