i guess the question is, can you swap the new wrx/sti suspension onto it?

It's still based on the Impreza, so this should work just as much as it did before. You'd probably need higher spring rates, though, with the added weight.

According to the numbers above, the new Forester, despite growing a few inches in every direction, will actually weigh slightly less than the current model.

The Sports XT is pretty hot, but the Limited is much uglier. I was going to buy a Limited anyway, since it's only $900 more for leather, heated seats, etc, etc. Makes it kind of stupid to choose the body kit over that, IMO. I'm not going to pretend I wasn't tempted, though.

I think, whether it's an '08 or an '09, a Forester XT may end up being my next car. I've got to drive the new one and see how it feels. I don't care about the looks, and my wife will probably love the new "macho SUV" look.

I think this Forester looks alot like both the Toyota RAV4 and Highlander.

The front end looks a lot like the WRX on the XT Limited with the scoop on it. Hopefully the Sports XT will have a better grill.

It was OK, but every time they redesigned it, it got a little uglier.

That's how Subaru has done things for the last 20 years. Every redesign, the cars get a little less bearable. The 93-01 Impreza was very nice, the bugeye was still pretty (albeit a little bloated), and then it just goes down hill. The '08 STi just makes me weep a little inside.
