This thread is for all you who painted or know someone who painted their wheels gold/bronze. what color did you use? got any pics of them on your car? i've tried searching with poor results. i plan on buying some mazda 3 wheels and want to paint them gold/bronze. i'm looking for something along the lines of a rota/volk/subaru bbs/nippon gold/bronze color. someone help me!!! please?(yes)

duplicolor has bronze wheel paint. i saw someone use their metalcast gold for painting stock suby wheels. turned out pretty good.

which mazda3 wheels are you looking to paint? i only ask because if it's the old ones, i don't think they'll look good because of the thick spokes. the new ones would probably look okay.

painting stock wheels to gold to make it appear aftermarket or "upgraded OEM" = poor taste.... I have never seen the s*** come out right, its ugly as s*** as it doesn't match the style of whatever wheel it is

you want gold, you buy them that way like I did, DUH

Do what you like. I think you'd be better off having them powdercoated bronze. Paint chips very easily and won't look too good after a while. The powdercoating will hold up very well and isn't too expensive.

i painted my old mp3 wheels bronze...never put them on the car, though...i used duplicolor bronze wheel paint...with a TON of clear...i painted the center-caps anodized red...they looked good to me and to the guy that bought them.

I'm not trying to make them look "aftermarket"...i just like the color scheme.

to all those who are hating this idea....**Uh Mmm!* TheMan! (clears throat) to each his own i say! it doesnt matter what others think! i just dont appreciate him coming on here and voicing his lame opinions. (yupnope) ANYWAYS, back to the subject at hand.....I would powdercoat them but the company that does it around here wants like 150 per rim. i say HA! with that money, i could buy a set new. yes, it is more durable, but i'll spend 5 bucks on a can, and touch it up. plus, i'd rather do the work myself and step back and admire my craftsmanship.

Keep the posts comin! anyone got any pics of their ride with some gold/bronze wheels?? preferably in black mica???

haha, Yea, definetly. I would get mine powdercoated but I can't afford it. I was thinking of painting my black actually. Not knocking painting the rims at all, not everybody can afford powdercoating or new rims! lol

And... those bronze painted rims with the red center caps look great!

im thinking about the same thing. i have a msp, thinkin of painting the stockers, subie sti bronz. theres a guy in south carolina that paints and they look real good on his p5. it sets the contrast of the car off and makes it different. EVERYONE and their mom is doing black rims = played out. stick to it. there is a thread on how-to paint rims, look it up, good luck and post pics of final product.

so uhh...anyone else besides TheMAN and his positive criticism?

You will have to forgive Edwin. He's too smart for "us". He wrote the Protege FAQ bible. Apparently, when he did, he became an untouchable apostle to the god of Mazda.

What an asshole.

I painted a set of stockers for my '03 using Duplicolor bronze and clear. I did this due to cost. I like them personally. I do have some chipping after about a year and a half, at some point I would like to get them powdercoated. Here is what they look like.

it was just the duplicolor bronze wheel paint...you can find it in most autoparts stores...they only had black, silver, gold and bronze i think...well, that's all they had when i painted mine. i never had them installed, so i don't have any pics...protege2k had the same paint/wheels on his car at one time.
