Tire Paint????

I like the way it looks. But keep it small and subtle just like it is. I like the red too.

But I agree with Rush....The Supra thing's gotta go!

Yea goes good with red calipers, and Just the Brand and its logo is alot better. You prolly just started a new fad...Not even all that ricey.

I think it looks good, but also a little weird. Looks a little ricey. I dunno, it's all good. =)

I dig it! The kumho in red is alot better than supra for sure....now if only you would powdercoat the gt spec trailing links red....everything would match beautifully. Either way, your car is ridiculously clean....glad your putting some miles on her.

Thanks for the comments everyone. At first I thought it might be alittle ricey myself but I was bored and wanted to just give it a shot. After removing the 'supra' lettering and just doing the 'KUMHO' I didn't seem to have that ricey feeling. I definitely don't like rice (I don't think my car is) and I think it goes along with the color scheme pretty well.

Rush - I just stuck with my art paint, its Acrylic crimson red. The acrylic is almost like a latex so it won't crack or peel off.

I don't wash my car since it isn't a daily driver (hasn't been washed or seen rain in 3 years) so if I were to do this on a daily driver, I would get the Duplicolor tire paint which would probably hold up a lot better than this acrylic paint. Duplicolors tire paint is available in red, white and yellow... sorry, not gray or silver which is what you like.

Thanks Jay, I agree, the GTspec trailing links would look better if they were red but who would have thought I would have red lettering on the tires which would contrast against the orange??????

Thanks again for all the votes of confidence.

Well the paint didn't hold up so well, I took the car out last night and when I got home almost all the paint had peeled or cracked. I guess the heat did the damage.

I picked up the tire paint from duplicolor today and am putting that on tonight and that should last a while.

if you have ever put tire shine on your tires the chance is that the tire paint might not stick either.

I cleaned the tires before putting on the acrylic paint that peeled and cracked.

I cleaned the tires again and rubbed the area with rubbing alcohol before putting on the Duplicolor stuff last night. This paint is made specifically for tires so it should fare better.

The Duplicolor paint looks pretty good and the color is the same as what I put on the tires before. I'm happy with the look.

I'm planning on taking the car to work tomorrow so I'll report back with how the paint performs.

Not to change the subject or to discourage you from driving it BUT, your taking it to work!? I hope you have a nice spot in the shade, fenced off with barricades and highered a guard...lol!

Anyway, mine is nowhere near as perfect as yours...but taking to work is a no no...I can't concentrate when I do, so I don't anymore. Ya I got issues....and I'm just bustin' your butt. Good luck with new tire paint.

Ha, you're like me. I hate leaving my car anywhere for a long period of time unless it's in my garage.

Unfortunately it isn't covered and in the shade. I park it in a parking lot where no one else is and is far away from everyone but it does bake out in the sun all day. I park my Fit there also and don't have any problems and I'm known as "the guy who parks out there".

Glad to hear I'm not one of the only ones who has a "problem". When the car is in the garage, all four tires sit on a piece of carpet so its feet don't get cold, under 2 car covers and 5 comforters so if the wife were to push something into the car when she pulls into the garage I won't end up with a dent.

Duplicolor paint didn't hold up much better, it started to peel and crack off also. It stood up better than the orginal paint but I only was on the road for about 40-45 minutes total and it didn't look so good afterwards. I touched it up with the paint left in the pen but the next time I go for a ride, I'm sure it will come off too.

The paint might stand up better on a tire that isn't as small. I'm thinking my sidewall is so small so the bumps in the road cause the sidewall rubber to compress and expand creating the cracking and peeling. Someone with a larger sidewall might have better luck since their sidewalls won't be under as much stress.

I took the car out to a meet and I got so many compliments on so I'm pissed it didn't work out.

Oh well, I'll continue to look for other ways to do this.
