snooky said:is there a way of removing the big stock filter box and replacing it with an aftermarket filter? (ex: K&N....)
Thanks

snooky said:ya but instead of adding a metal pipe, leave the stock rubber one and attach a K&N filter.
would it work?
thanks
Gandalf said:Thats all an SRI is. It's a MAF adapter (you have to put the MAF somewhere) and a filter. Thats as simple as it gets.

As far as just clamping a K&N on to the end of the stock rubber intake hose I see two potential problems.
1. Finding the correct diameter filter to fit perfectly in the rubber hose so that it won't fall off.
2. My CAI is bolted to the frame of the car, I don't know if SR's are too but if you attach a filter to the rubber tube it will flex and move around every time you get on the gas. This could cause damage to the filter, rubber hose and possibly other things in the are like the MAF sensor.
I'd suggest just saving your money for a few weeks/months and getting a solid aftermarket part.

I just installed my Fujita CAI and it was VERY easy. If you can read then you can do it. Not being an ass, im being serious. Its that easy.snooky said:i think your right HAHA, thanks man, i had a full CAI on my protege 5, it when down to the wheel like you said... i think im just gonna wait, is it hard to install myself?
one more thing, on my P5 there was a censer that if I didnt connect it between the twon pipes the car would go crazy and all the lights on the dash would go on... dos the MS6 have that?
