The welds on my obx header are cracked. Is this a common problem? What kinda warranty does it have? Sorry for the fuzzy pictures, but u can see the middle two pipes are broken right on the welds.

unfortunately this is a known problem with OBX headers. apparently the metal they use is too thin and easily cracked @ the welds.. there just isnt enough metal to cope with the movement that the FS-DE has and cracks under the stress.

where did you purchase it from? most OBX headers are purchased on ebay... I dont know personally of any warranties, etc.

The better questions for all those who have this is how long did it take for this to happen? What hangers you been using? Do you also have motor mount inserts to add to the vibration? Do you travel much on f'd up roads? And last but not least, how much are you lowered? IMO, all of these will factor into the longevity of the welds to a certain degree.

I put it on in july. Stock hangers, motor mounts and I'm not lowered but i do live on a gravel road... and it can get pretty cold here

when i take my car out this spring, i should have a close look at mine... 'bout 1.5 yrs and no problems, but one can never be too careful. if you got it from ken, talk to him about it - he's a good guy, he should be able to help you out in some way.

couldnt you just get the flange rewelded? i know this sucks but that or put your stock manifold back on. im sure there is no warrenty

I would have to reweld first while looking for a suitable replacement. Have had mine on lowered car, mix of kartboy/oem hangers, front rr insert, all pavement, garaged for over 2 1/2 years with no problems so far(crossing fingers, hoping for best)

hey, bash OBX all you want, of the hundreds i have sold over the last four years - and thats just proteges mind you - i have only had two people up to this point call me up and say that they had one break on them. one of those was because the vehicle had broken motor mounts. i've seen proportionally more problems with wagner headers and spool manifolds than what i have seen with an OBX header. there are virtually no alternatives to this header on this car, and none in the same price range. there is the thunder header as an option for this car, and one which i believe is very good. you could get a racing mazda one, which is far worse for the money, a tsudo-style one from ebay with poor fitment, or try and find an AWR, wagner, ractive used as those are all long out of production. every obx header i have installed locally is still on thier respective cars in what is a pretty lousy climate half the year with no issues. i'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but its hard for me to out right consider the header garbage when out of several hundred sold since 2003 i've had problems with less than five of them and you have handmade products by defunct vendors on this forum that fall apart far quicker.

i looked into a wide range of high quality fabricators for making very nice 4-2-1 headers for these cars and the price was at least double what you would pay for one of these. if there are ten people willing to put down $500+ on a 4-2-1 stainless steel American made header, i'll do it. until then, OBX is the best i can do.

OBX has a full warranty on all of thier product, and if you PM me your information I will pass it along to them so we can get you a new header.

Ken, you are the best. The OBX I got from you is still holding strong, at least till this upcoming saturday when the turbo goes in its place.

Ken, you are my hero (bowdown) I think I just have bad luck cuz I just had a broken weld fixed on my midpipe after my RB catback showed up with a big dent in the muffler, but I didn't buy that from you (maybe I should have). Oh well, as long as it gets taken care of...

I DO need to pick up some awr motor mounts tho

And other than my bad luck, my header is awesome. I searched and couldn't find anything else negative about them, so why don't you flamers go smoke some pole? (blowjob)

From the sounds of it with the muffler dent & the midpipe issue, the header must of had some help cracking like that. Ken FTW, thanks for the stats. Nice to hear.

well Ken has some good points. thanks for clarifying that for us man. if OBX has a warranty, there's nothin really to worry about. and its true that everything produced is gonna eventually have a fluke or two after years of production.

thanks again Ken. Once i get some extra cash (hopefully soon, i'm lookin foward to some mad overtime next week) i'll be gettin some stuff from you.

who else reps for protege garage? Its been almost a month and I haven't heard from ken since he asked for my purchase info. I hate being left in the dark (pissed) i wanna buy some awr motor mounts but not til this header is taken care of
