what kind of key is this?

Hey alls,

One of my friends just bought this key for his rx-8 from another member on another forum and it doesn't work on his rx-8. Anybody know what kind of key this goes to? I tried doing a google image search and looked aroudn on the forums really quick but couldn't figure it out...

it is the same one my brother has as on his mazdaspeed miata. the master tech i used to work with claims he got it to work on his rx8 * shrugs *.

and no it won't work on the protege.

Looks like the one I had for a Mazda 6 rental so long ago.

hmmm ok...thanks for the replies! I'll let him know...I asked him what part of the key doesn't work - if it's the metal key part or the buttons or what...he hasn't gotten back to me yet

the metal part will work on his car in terms of opening the doors, trunk etc. it would work on our cars in terms of that and starting it. on his rx8, it may not have the same transponder that can be programmed with his car's code to start it. i doubt the remote portion of it works either.
