My new Speed6

Hello all, my first post here. I bought my own Titanium Grey Mazdaspeed6 yesterday and was hoping to join you club. I got the GT, with sunroof and sirrius. I bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty 5year/100K miles.

Just curious if you guys could help me out with some issues such as, can I put tires on it that are not low profile, as in all season or snow tires for the winter. I have heard that the wheel arches cannot handle larger diameter tires. Also, dealership told me to go ahead and use conventional motor oil. Should I be using synthetic? Any other maintenance tips would be appreciated. Also, this is my first turbo, any tips to maximize my fuel economy when I want to. Thanks guys

Congrats and welcome!

Tires - you can change to all season or winter if you'd like. You can't really get away from low profile, but you can get a little larger without any problems with a 225/45/18. That is the size I got for my Blizzaks. You can also go with 225/40/18 or the stock 215/45/18.

Oil - Most people switch to synthetic, but you don't have to. I did because it is better for the car in my opinion.

Turbo - If you want to maximize fuel economy, get a boost gauge and try to stay out of the boost when you want to save gas :).

For a cheaper alternative to snow tires you may want to get steel wheels and get 215/50/17 tires. That's the route I'll be taking.

That is a good plan too. A lot of people get the 17" Mazda 6 wheels and then put all season or winter tires on those for winter usage.

Yep... sure do. These were before I took off the pinstriping and the front plate! This weekend we gonna try on those Altima SE-R wheels. Hmm.. it comes with 225/45/18's... that shouldn't raise the height any, should it?

LOL...nothing like getting off topic.

I wanna see the pics with those wheels. 225/45/18 should be ok as long as your offset is +40/+45 or higher on those rims.

That is the size of tire I got for the Blizzaks. They should be fine.

Don't switch to synthetic until the car is definatley broken in. Roughly 5000-6000 miles or on your second scheduled oil change.

I switched at 1500 miles.

what is the reasoning behind this? my car came with mobil 1 from the factory and my MSP ran mobil 1 since the first oil change, no problems with either
