welding my LSD & maybe new clutch

I'm thinking that as long as I'm having this preventative work done, that I may as well put a little bit heavier-duty clutch in.

Anyone done this, and if so when clutch did you put in with what results? I don't need to spend $400 on a racing clutch b/c I don't beat the crap out of car (i.e. I never pop the clutch), but I do like to drive the car hard from time to time. The car currently has 50K miles.

Suggestions?

If your not going any higher with psi on the turbo I would just put a stock exedy or the oem stock clutch back in, they hold enough for daily driving and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Yup. Got my Exedy "stage 1?" from JDM Sam, and I'm thrilled with it. Supposed to hold over 300 ft./lbs. and is smooth as silk. Better than the stock clutch. The kit comes with a nice throwout bearing and pilot bearing too. Just don't skip the step of having the flywheel resurfaced no matter what you choose.

I'll look into the Exedy stage 1. I was torn on whether or not to go with a stage 1, stage 2, or stage 2+. Thanks for the advice.

Just remember if you get the stage 2+ it's going to be a b**** in city driving.

I assume you mean from a feel/finess standpoint, correct?

I don't know about a stage 2, but my stage 5 Bully unit was a nightmare for daily driving. I won't R&R my tranny unless it's for a really good reason, and getting that Bully out of there was more than enough reason, lol.

Got a clutch on the install table

Thanks to Steve @ NSN Motorsports I got a great deal on this Spec Stage 2 kit. I'll be putting it in during the process of reassembly after having the LSD welded. wOOt!

my buddy had a spec stage two in his 240 and it s*** itself in just 10k. no hard driving

That sucks about your buddy's Spec.

I've done enough research to come to the belief that that was very likely an isolated incident and not the "norm" for this product. These clutches seem to have a very good reputation otherwise, but i do appreciate the heads up.

Definitely let us know how yours works out.

Well my spec stage 2 has 600 miles on it now and guess what it slips............i think it a bad pressure plate so we will see. I think it would be a great clutch if it grabbed!!!

how much did the labor run you to have your lsd welded? do you guys think i'll need a new clutch with the mods i'm going to be putting on my car (look at my sig)

man, I really didn't need to read this...

Did you install it yourself, or did you have a shop install it? If you did it yourself, have you ever replaced a clutch on your own before? I'm just trying to qualify the problem a little.

Also, let's ask **********...have you experienced *ANY* problems with SPEC clutches?

welded LSD a good bet...my LSD took a crap on itself in first gear coming out of a seven-eleven....It snapped right in half....I just recently had the protegegarage welded LSD put in and it is in very good working order...definately a good thing to upgrade because it will undoubtably break and Ive heard the mazda replacement upgrade is not much better...I dont have any experience with it, but thats the word I've been hearing and it totally sucks having your LSD split right in half. Best of luck!
