Proud New RX-7 Owner needs advice!

2 weeks ago I finally found a 91 RX-7 non turbo with a body still like new. I've dreamed of having 1 since I was about 12 years old.

This baby came fully loaded with power everything and the only problem that it came with was the display on the original deck was fading. I took it in to my mechanic to get saftied expecting a 3 page printout of of problems. I was shocked to find out the only thing I needed to replace was a bent rim (from my brother spinning it out the 1st day I got it. He drives a 98 neon with a 2.4 dropped in from an intrepid, creates nice torque but its still no rotary and hes to used to FF)

I've done a basic engine cleanup and tuning, my boss used to work on rotary engines so I got lucky there. I've decided not to paint it till spring since the paint on it right now is still in pretty good shape (red) so I threw down a layer of wax/clear coat. I picked up the new Sony Xplode system (1200 watt 4 channel amp, GT500 deck 52X4, 4X Xplode 10" subs in a custom V box and 2X5.75 Xplode highs in the rear. Cut out the front channels and it sounds amazing, I would recommened this setup to anyone that likes a quality sound that can still pour out the bass when needed.)

My next steps are going to be as follows:

Exhaust- Front to back. Already have a custom cut 2.5" Y-Pipe waiting.
I need to custom fit a new intake and I have an idea of what I want I just want other RX-7 owners with experience's opinions. I want to remove the air filter and move the overflow bottle where it used to be. Have the cannon run under the front support and sit beside the passenger headlight. Replace the front bumper with something that will breathe easier and possibly custom cut it to channel cold air into the new intake (the old overflow bottle spot). I can see this working but it I also see how problems could occur. After that I'll be getting high-flow heders and a high-flow catty and finish off the back end of the exhaust.

If anyone has any suggestions on how/where to run a new intake without causing burns under the hood please let me know.

I'll be sending in pictures after work, but for right now I'm trying to figure out how to maximize my horsepower and acceleration before I put it in storage for the winter. Any help would be appreciated, I'm sure I'll be on these forums a lot more now that I've seen some of the stuff you guys have done!

if the body is in as pristine of a condition as you say, why are you even modifying it????? keep it OG stock!!!!

Because my brother also has an '02 Durango 5.9 R/T with high-flow exhaust custom cages all around chrome everything and a 2400watt 16 speaker 3 subs system in it. My boss has a 90 vette pushing 410RWHP and a real cheap stereo. My best friend has a 300ZX TT with a $9000 two-tone paint job.

I've always had the money to beat these guys out and they've always made fun of my 99 Grand Am (stock, silver). But I've never wanted to buy an RX with a rusted out body or frame. Now that I've got it, its time to show these guys how a real cars put together :)

(edited, spelling)

Obviosuly not without a winters work. I spent just over $5000 cdn on the car with safety and everything. I'm planning on spending another $16-20 this winter and painting it in the spring. If I can find a 20B I'd definately drop a twin-scroll turbo onto it. Anything is possible if you have the money ^^

I'm getting the pics off my dig cam right now give me about 15 minutes I'll put em up.

you do realize a NA FC is NOT going to beat those cars right

You could make it in to a nice handling, reliable street car. But if your looking for a straight line car, your going to be disappointed......unless you've got about 20k to throw at it.

I'm not looking to make it a track only car. Like I said I have a Grand Am I can drive when I feel like people laughing at me, I've just wanted this for the fun of having a fast RX-7. It will stay street-legal and in a garage most of the time unfortunately :(

why even worry about what other people think/say....if you got the money, keep working hard to make more, invest it, drive a car that you enjoy and in 20 years when they are hard up for cash, your sitting back in the sun taking it easy, sitting on a boat load of cash......i know, i know....easier said than done.

You talk about maximizing power, but want to load up on stereo equipment. And you mention tunes on the other guy's rides? Forget the sounds. You want as little weight as possible if you're looking for as much as you can from an NA application. OR...swap that puppy out for a REW or similar. :D

You can make ANY car a show car so that doesn't matter.

I guarantee I can take a Pinto and throw enough money at it and get it in a show and win. Gotta pay to play.
