Could someone who has done the vcts removal help me out right quick?

(IN THE PICTURE)
Are you supposed to take the yellow flaps out, and then put the rod back in with the little green things.

Whoa you are doing it on the 3? I hadn't heard of anyone trying it on the 3 before. On the Protege you leave the rod out too, and you have to use something to fill the holes.. either weld them shut or something. With a "composite" (plastic) intake manifold I'm not sure though.

You may want to search on the other forum, seems like more ppl have done it over there. Most have been leaving the rod in. Not sure which ones you pull out though.

Theres a few people over in this forum that have done it i thank maybe goldwing has done it. I read justa bout every piece of material on it at the other forums and theres just not any pictures of the mani and not really any detailed write ups. If I could get someone who has done it to just point out what i need to take out and what i need to leave in on the picture i put below then i think that would give me enough balls to do it.

I mean if I was to start doing it right now i could probably figure it out but i like to know for sure what im gettin into before i get to it. I think that all you have to do is take the flaps out and leave everything else there so the ecu thinks that its still there but i need to know the details and what to watch out for and such.

the thing is, if you leave the rod in you aren't really getting any performance gain at all. Is that why you 3 people do the VTCS removal? For the protege the screws that hold the flaps on come loose and screw some things up pretty badly, but I'm sure that's not an issue on the 3.

that is NOT VTCS... removing them will result in engine efficiency/performance loss... that's TSCV and it's ALWAYS supposed to work compared to VTCS for cold start only on the proteges

the 3 is NOT a protege

I got it from a post at the other forum where someone was trying to explain the vcts removal. If thats not the VCTS then what is? Im not tryin to get short with ya its just that i was just about to go do this right this second and now someone tells me that thats not what im supposed to be taking out. Good lookin out though if what ur saying is right.

Replace the green inserts once you remove the shaft and flaps. You also need to replace the cap at the end of a the shaft where the actuator moves the shaft... So the actuator has something to plug into. I have a slightly lower cold idle than I used to when starting the engine when it's been sitting for a while.Once in a while it will still stall too. But after the first 3 minutes there's more available power than there was stock. Not a lot more, but it's noticeable. If you have an intake and exhaust it all helps the other parts to work better/more efficiently.

Yeah it seems like it just lets me to my torque quicker and doesnt really add alot of peak torque if any at all. I just did it saturday and it was so friken easy. I figured i was gonna end up gettin halfway done and then change my mind and put it back together. i just put the bar and the little spacer things back in without the flaps and hooked the solenoid back up and vwolla easiest thing ive done to my car since advance ignition timing. If you have never done something like this before i would suggest setting a couple of hours aside for the project at least 2 or 3, it took me a little over an hour. If you need more detailed instructions just say something and i will explain it to the best of my memory.

You should really go back in and remove the bar as it's still a big restriction directly in the middle of the flow of air. While it's better now that the flaps are gone, there is still something blocking air... the bar.

I might have to do the timing mod soon. I'll just have to pay for the premium fuel for the extra oomf :P My brother boasts about his miata being night/day with timing advanced as apposed to stockish timing.

yeah the timing really helps its not like 15 hp but you can definitely feel it.
I was thinkin about taking the bar out today because all i hafta do is take the solenoid out and pop the white thing out and pull the bar out without taking the mani out, my biggest concern at the time was wether or not those spacers would hold them selfs in but i think they will.

Correct me if im wrong but I dont think that you hafta run 93 octane with the advanced timing ive been doing it for months with 89 octane.

You don't need to run 93 octane, but to me anything over 87 octane is premium because.. it costs more :D LOL Gas prices are dropping so I can always just tell myself the extra dollar I spend a fill up is for more fun :D

Yeah true i try to think that but thats like 45 bucks to fill mine up with premium here. I cant wait till more of mazda's parasitic power loss is found and destroyed i love free mods that actually give results.
