2002 ES black steering wheel installed

a bit off topic.... does your car have the 6 speaker setup? or did you put a set in the back doors yet?

my 2000 ES doesn't have the 6, but I want to add them, is it hard to run the wires??

No, just two in the front doors and two in the rear deck.

I'll be doing my swap during my spring break, which is the last week of March. I'll try and photograph step by step the entire process.

The finished product is gonna look awesome.

u said you had the dash out twice? just curious, can you take the dash out attached to the metal frame? or do you just take the outer skin, im stuck right now getting it out of the wrecked P5

yeah, i got to say the 99-00 interior we have in our cars neg , is crappy, gets dirty extremely to fast, and ist just down right ugly... who came up with the design in the cloth.....

The entire dash skin and frame come out in one piece. Afterwards you will need to remove the skin from the frame outside the car.

We started on it today. It's about halfway done, we hope to finish tomorrow. What's left:
Pull heater core and A/C cooling unit
Rip out old dash harness and install new one
Put heater core and A/C cooling unit back in
Swap out dash frame from old to new dash
Put new dash in
Put steering wheel in
Put new carpet
Seats
Trim Panels

How heavy was that dynamat you put in? Did it make a noticeable difference? I was thinking about doing this but I want to keep my car light. If it substantially kills the road noise however, I may go for it.

It's farily heavy, I'd say about 7 or 8 pounds a box. So far I've used 3.5 boxes. The car's not finished yet and is all taken apart so I can't comment on the sound deadening characteristics quite yet.

Pretty much sound deadening. I also have some synthetic carpet padding going in on top of all this. Check out the link to clubpro I posted earler in the thread.

Hey is it possible to remove the dash but leave the steering column and wheel in the car? Also how long does it take to to pull the dash out?

No, either the dash/dash frame and steering column come out, or just the steering column. The dash frame supports the steering column.

Well is is possible to pull the dash but leave the frame bolted into the car? I'm just looking to paint it and to make this is easy as possible.

The entire dash and skin has to come out to gain access to all the bolts that hold it to the dash frame.

Trust me, it's not that hard to remove the steering column. There's one bolt at the bottom of the firewall that disconnects it. It's not like the column is one big continuous piece.

Nine other bolts and the dash assembly can come out. (once you disconnect all the harnesses and clips as well)

WOW. Props to you for having the nicest early third gen I've seen. I'm not usually a fan of the champagne colored cars but it looks amazing with the sport20 bumper and everything you have done. The charcoal interior will perfect it in my eyes.

I had no idea you had done the engine/transmission swap too, that is amazing. Makes my plans to install the side airbags / abs package that my car sorely lacks.

Thats it. 10 bolts!! I thought there be more. How long does it take to take it out? A round about time?

Also I'm sure you labeled the harness to make it easier as you took it out. Could you make a how to on this if possible? If not thats ok. I can figure it out as I go.

About an hour or so I'd say. Just take your time and make sure you unclip all the connectors.

zverg, thanks for the kind words. It's taken me a long time to get to where the car sits today, and I still have much more planned. Just wait. :)

I think I like the 99-2000 front end better than the Protege5 front end specifically on the Protege5. The front end of your car matches the styling of the Protege5 back end a lot better. The headlights on the P5 are too slim for the relatively large rear.

Definitely keep us updated with lots of pics :)

lookin good man. I was contemplating that for a bit but decided against it. Reason being is that for a long time I wanted to do a tan/black interior like high end cars such as porsche or vette or others. I had it pictured in my head but wanted a more visual feel to it and then this post: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123618856&highlight=biege+black sealed it for me. I will be doing it a bit different but this is what I wanted to do since I got my car back in the day. keep up the good work though.
