Put everything together today and i would say it hits pretty damn hard considering i'm using the stock kenwood amp. JL recommended RMS level is 300watts. It's the 12w3v2-d4 version and i have it wired for 8ohms. Dont want to risk wiring it at 2ohms because i would be afraid of blowing the amp. I will probably obtain a better amp down the road or whenever my stock amp takes a s***. well i would definetly recommend it. sub cost me 160 and box was like 30.

Very cool. I'm running the same sub (bought in 1998) in a sealed box, except mine is a -D6 version. I've got the voice coils in parallel for a 3 ohm load, which means the bridged factory amp is seeing 1/2 of that = 1.5 ohm load. It hits great, sounds great, and pulls enough juice to make my lights dim a bit when it's cranked. It does get hot as s***, though!

In my previous car I ran the sub with an old Autotek 99 'factory cheater' competition amp that is basically only limited by the amount of current you can feed it and your ability to cool it, but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Running 2 or 4 gauge wire all the way through a car sucks.

Glad to see someone else out there going old school, lol.
