I just got done installing the Helios HID kit I purchased from Xenon-Shop:

I am very pleased with the quality of the product and the results. Install time was about 2 hours and well worth the time spent!

The hardest thing with installing the kit is figuring out where to mount the ballasts and igniters so that they are; 1) far enough from the motor (heat), 2) don't get wet and 3) are installed in such a way as to minimize kinks in the wiring (but still have enough length to connect). So, if you like where I placed mine, it should save you about an hour on the install time.

Note: on the passenger side ballast, I used one of the included self-tapping screws to mount the ballast. However, it is necessary to pre-drill with a 1/8" bit due to the extra thickness of the strut tower.

Hey if you remember to check, look and see how hot those get after about an hour with them on. I noticed about 3 stress on each side of my lights form some of these aftermarket bulbs. Needless to say they came out quick. They are small cracks probably from the heat and rocks hiting at the same time.
If the real HIDs don't get hot then I'll get some.
Looks good.too. (thumb)

Actually, HID's run cooler than even stock wattage bulbs... but I will check for ya anyway. Merry Christmas!

True HIDs get much hotter than halogen bulbs. The core of the capsule gets to about 600-700*F, however it is contained within a vacuum sealed enclosure so that no heat is transfered, and as such it actually runs cooler than a halogen bulb in the housing. Leave it on for an hour, and you'll barely feel the heat.

I agree, it still gets warm inside the housing, but nothing compared to halogens. I have the same kit, but 7k and love every minute driving at night with them. I had my ignitors mounted exactly where you do until I decided to move them inside my bumper. Good install though, hope you're enjoying yours as much as I enjoy mine.

nice and clean install.(thumb)
did you have a red and a black connection wires from the ballast's red connetor to the factory lamp connector? or did you have to cut the factory harness?
just got my hi/lo kit with no connectors nor relays packaged.

I did not have to cut anything. I was given an extension harness that plugged into the factory connector, then into the ballast. No relays in my kit, just two ballasts, two igniters and a couple of fuses.

thanks for the quick reply.
the protege5 uses an h7 bulb right? that's looks to be same connector as the ballast. i have a sedean with h4 3 blade connector and the ballst has a 2 blade connector. i bought the hi/lo kit and it seems to require some relays and diodes according to the installation instructions, looks to be a bigger project that i planned on. i guess i'll need to talk with xenon-shop. for some missing items.

Yeah, they are H7's... talk to Xenon, I'm sure he'll make it right. Hopefully you didn't already have everthing torn apart, and then found out about the missing items! I hate it when that happens :)

Thanks! You have this kit or another? Why do you need a new set (or do you mean bulbs?)?

I have a set I put together myself.. Matsushita Gen3 Ballasts and Ignitors..Phillips D2s bulbs... I have new MSP headlights for the 5 so I need to get a H4 kit. I think I will put my old set in the EK.

Ah, I see. I have not looked closely, what is the difference between the MS and P5 headlights? Does the speed not have separate high beams?

Yeah the speed only has one housing instead of having 2 like the P5 ...They run H4 low/hi
