New exhaust on, and "fabricated" a short shifter for my sport auto muahhahah

Man, you used a hacksaw to cut that thing off !! I'm gunna break out the trusty 4 1/2" grinder with a cut off wheel. Or a sawzall. Screw that manual labor crap. I think I am going to go with this knob when I do it.

yaggie1 that knob is sweet i love the black crome look, goes so great. Good luck!

ps: my dremmel was teh broke :(

Yeah, only thing that really blows is that the Momo knobs are all pretty much $100. But, I have wanted that one for a while so I will spring for it one of these days.........

The RAZO knob I really wanted was that much too. Got a different one, just didn't like how high it looked without the tapered part on bottom like oem. I got the Japanese box with the useless instructions too but no need for them anyway..........

I've even half thought about going the way of the Pirana and taking out the shift gate console part and installing a shift boot making a pseudo stick out of it. I like the look of the short shifter and boot.

Just don't get lost in the gates (evil).

That's my plan. Even got the wife to order me a boot from HPF for Christmas.

Looks really nice! I am a fan of the shorter shifter. Although it isn't funtional, it definetly improves the appearance! Just wondering but you said you cut off about an inch and a half, can you get an exact measurement or not? I think I would like to try this.

Is the shifter itself the same for the MSP and the P5 ? I would guess that they are. How much shorter is say a B & M short shifter than the stocker ? That's kinda what I was going to gauge against when I go to do mine. That way I know the boot won't look goofy(either too tall or too short).

nope, the MSP has a shorter lever (short shifter ;))

So, the MSP had a short shifter standard then ? I guess I just figured they threw the same one in. Thx for the info

well...it's short-er. They do make aftermarket short shifters for the MSP (and MP3).

Of course, since we're talking about the sport-craptic, there aren't too many (read: no) other options. Aside from a tranny swap.

Neither transmission that come in these cars are anything to brag about. Each has it's pros & cons. Manual is not race worthy without modification & repair. Best thing about manual in these cars is higher gas mileage. Sportronic is just fine for daily driver rush hour gridlock avoidance supercommuting. Slap on the oil cooler & run synthetic atf. At 60+ it comes down to driver ability anyway so bust on. I check out on cars with much more power & manuals all the time who can't manage traffic so whatever..........

if u wanna do it like mine just

1. unscrew the stock shifter

2. apply the new shifter u want on

3. measure the distance between the new knobs bottom and the plastic sport trans plate

4.take off the new knob

5.take your measurement and starting from the very top of the screw top thread at the top of the shifter, and measure down and make a mark with a sharpee marker.

6.now if you cut it at this level your new shifter will bottom out right at the plastic.
(first)

Well, took about 2.25" off of the top yesterday, threw on a boot and a knob. Most definitely looks better. Ricer? Poseur? Whatever. I like it. Will get pics up eventually.

This mod is like a tattoo. It's pretty serious. You're ****** if you want to sell it.

what do u mean your ****** if u sell it?!? u mean like puting in forced induction wont do a thing to your engine lol its like straping a bomb to your car. yeah u go fast for a while then unless u upgrade your internals your engine will take a s*** and sieze up.

And its not like our cars are hot rods that will sell to any punk ricer kid these cars will most likly be sold back to dealer or some soccer mom.

As long as u dont put in a fake me out i wanna be manual boot and riced out carbon fiber super huge knob, 99% of people will look at it and not say a thing. All the people who have even noticed it in my car have said "Is that stock, it looks nice."
