Custom bi-xenon HID projector headlights (56K warning)

So this past weekend I finally got my HID retrofit done on my MP3. I had HID's on my old 200sx and had to have them again.

I used Hella bi-xenon HID projectors, same units found in the 2002+ Audi A6, RS6, A8/S8, Porsche Cayenne and Matsushita slim ballasts (Infiniti/Nissan).

Here are some pics that I have so far, I still have some aiming to do so I should get some beam pics later and pics of the finished headlights....I seem to have forgotten to take pics of the finished product.

In all 150+hrs of research, 24hrs of labour and lots of money spent.

These are the projectors, so pretty

Very bad pics of the highbeam solenoid

The beam may look weak, but its only 3ft from the garage door and the yellow/orange at the cutoff line is normal for being that close to the door, from a distance its a nice blue/purple cutoff. I should have pics later of that.

check back for more pics...

holy closeup batman. if those lights had a zit you'd be able to spot it lickidy split. nice job. question, couldn't you have those projectors recessed in the headlight housing a bit more using a mounting bracket from the back side so as not to see it from the front?

Not sure what you mean by mounting bracket from the back side, either way I couldn't really go back any further, even if I could go back further I wouldn't want the projector lense too far back because the light would be hitting the stock lense.

what I'm trying to say is that seeing as how in the first pic, the projectors come with screws for mounting. Hence you could have put the projector further back so that the base of the silver piece surrounding the bulb could dit flush with the headlight housing. But this is assuming there is enough room in the back when it is mounted in the car. not really sure how big these are but it looks like there is enough room.

Are you making a shroud to cover everything form the lens back?

Edit: See pic below, space between arows.

I see what you mean. No I can't mount them that far back, these projectors are about 6.5" long and if I have the lense portion that far back the beam would be cut off on the sides since it will hit the headlight housing.

orlandomsp, yes I made a shroud out of 4" aluminum ducting. I should have pics up tomorrow of the finished headlights.

More pics...
apologies for the dirty car, we've had snow and rain for the past few days, yuck.

Here is the clearest shot I could get of the shroud and bezel

Had a car parked in front of me hence the not so straight on shot.

No output pics yet Hollywood. The lights wouldn't fire this morning, seems to be something wrong with the wiring, I'll have to spend so time with it after work to try to figure it out.

update..

figured out why they wouldn't fire the other day, water in the wire harness at the ballasts.....all fixed now and sealed up this time.
I hope to have output pics just as soon as there is some decent weather here, non stop rain every night it seems.

can i ask where you got the parts. i have hids in my car now, H4 hi/low and fogs as well as extra parts and really don't need anymore but if i could acquire another set of headlights i might see about doing this. i've been to junkyards and found old 626's and millenia's and infinity's with projectors but never found anything i felt like using.

I spent weeks watching the buy/sell forums on www.hidplanet.com and found some good deals there, also ebay. You can buy all the parts in a package from www.hidtech.com it would cost a bit more, but you get all new hardware and no need to search for all the parts, or pay them to do the retro.
If your interested in a set of lights like mine keep an eye out, i may be forced to sell these.

New pics!

Finally a nice night for pics, please excuse my lack of photo skills.

I'm so impressed just how much blue is at the cutoff line and the output is awesome, and the highbeams are crazy bright.
