A few FSP Auto-X Pics

I snapped a few photos of the Pro5 at the AutoX last weekend. The last pic is of one of the used V710's that I bought. Both my front tires looked like this after my 5th run. They lasted about 10 runs between me and my co-driver. Video coming soon.

WHOA! It's amazing what a couple hundred lbs does for wear and tear. My v710s have lasted a year of autox 6 track days and are still kicking!

Yea yea video :D

Good jobs on the tires too :) Are those Kosei 15" rims? Sometime I'd like to get smaller rims for autocrossing, but I'm not sure when. Too poor, and I want to learn with what I have.

I bought those tires used from someone. They had about 100 runs on them and the center tread was getting a little thin, but the edges as you can see had plenty of tread left. These tires would still have at least one more event in them, but the center tread actually delaminated from the rest of the tire. This is very similiar to what caused Kumho to recall the original V710's 2 years ago. I talked to Kumho about the problem after a fellow DSP Neon noticed the beginnings of the same problem on his much newer V710's. The Kumho engineer stated that this delamination is caused by improper heat cycling of the tire when it was new. I was relieved that it wasn't my fault, but I was still out 2 tires. We were running on pretty abrasive asphault, but the edge of the tread, which usually takes the worst beating in my car, still looked perfectly fine. I'll eventually be getting another set of V710's. I liked the slightly higher profile over the Hoosier's. It helped out with gearing a little better.

They are Kosei K1's. 15X7 with 37 offset. I love them and would recommend them to anyone looking for a dedicated AutoX rim. I have a friend selling a set of Mazda 626 15X6 rims if you want them. Thats what I ran last year and I still use them for my daily driven Azenis.

saw you had the MP3 steering rack on there. why? the MP3 ratio isn't as tight as the regular Protege/MP5.

It's quicker lock to lock, but I don't think it's really worthwhile at this point. I just haven't taken it off the list. McHaggis said it made the steering feel a little heavier too.

according to edwin, the mp3 steering isn't quicker lock to lock. thats what I was trying to say before

Hmm...I always heard that the MP3 got the E-Spec rack which had a slightly tighter ratio. Edwin knows his Proteges better than anyone I know so I can't argue.
