Apex Motorsports Blow Off Valve Kit: Mazdaspeed Protege w/Greddy Type RS B.O.V
Have you guys heard of this? I have been searching around for hard pipes, BOV's, so this so far seems like my best bet as far as price.....

humph. Sounds good... looks good. My greddy BOV is on my hard pipes along with another one connected to my bypass valve. But if I didnt have hard pipes, I'd probably consider this.

Looks good, all the connections appear to be correct. If I didnt have hard pipes and such, I probably would've considered this a while back. The only potential problem I see in the future is when you decide to get the hard pipes and FMIC. But unless you plan on forgoing that and staying with what you have, ask them about how that works with that option later on down the road.

interesting, but i don't like how the air will have to make two 180 degree turns to get back to the intake. other than that it looks good.

I think they should sell the red piece w/ in the pic individually w/ your choice of flange for those who want a different bov. other than that it looks good

looks like a definate solid alternative to hardpipes and for people who want to get a bov

So I wrote to them asking a few questions, like do you have to have a cold air intake. This is what he wrote to me. He also sent more pics.

Thanks for checking out our stuff, we really appreciate it. The kit is 100% bolt on. We have only tested this on cars with injen and aem intakes, we arent sure if it will fit with a factory air box. We just released this product about 2 days ago and we have had many orders already for it already. I will include some more pics for you. If you have any more questions please dont hesitate to ask.
Thanks

Looks kick ass with the red Injen on there. Like I said, as an alternative to hard pipes for the moment, I would consider it if it were me.

looks pretty awesome. I wonder how the Greddy Type-RS sounds. This might be the route I go because I was planning on going with an aftermarket side-mount intercooler anyways.

well they way they have it setup in the pic, you wouldnt hear any kind of blow off sound because its recirculating

yes :D..maybe youd hear a turkey if anything. if u wanna hear the bov sound just make it not recirculate. mine doesnt recirculate and it sounds great...no stalling either

I plan on doing a sound bite later this evening on my set-up. May have to find a way to have it hosted though...

yea but u wont hear anything if you have it setup like it is in the pic...where that black hose its attached to the greddy...the 'sound' is just gonna travel thru that and back into the intake.....no sound :D

I emailed that guy back asking about the sound and he said 'the sound is kinda hard to explain'. So he said later this afternoon he was going to get a sound clip and email to me. I'll post when I get it.............

im tellin u dude...its not gonna make any sound if its setup like in the pic. its a nice kit though! i would buy it. if you want the sound, just dont connect that black hose to the greddy, and plug up that hole to the intake. :D thats what i would do cuz i like hearing that sound

definately won't fit with stock airbox, no way, no how... the stock pipe that goes into the airbox goes right where the BOV is. Anyway, the price is pretty good considering that the BOV is $178 and the flange is $28 so your at $216, then the cost to attach the flange to the custom pipe and bracket is only $60 and you get it painted. Not a bad deal at all if you go this route. I would love to hear it attached to a hardpipe on the hot side, would and should sound pretty damn good if you vent out, but if you re-circ it the rubber hose will deaden the sound and you may hear something but probably not anything loud. I could be way off on this but this is what I think...thanks for reading all of this.... :)

Ok, it may work with stock pipes but you would have to move is at near as possible to the hot side pipe as possible and then the bracket they have wouldn't work but it would probably fit the stock airbox, just cut some hose from Home Depot and move it right next to the hotside stock pipe and it should work, but beware, that close to it means alot of weight on that little nipple and we all know what that means... it's going to break that tit right off of there...... so if you go with this you have to have an INJEN or AEM or something that allows for it's location. (bowdown)
